Yoga Les Farges

Yoga Les Farges I have been practising yoga since 1998 and qualified as a teacher in 2008.

I have taught students from nine to ninety and, alongside my private classes, I have been employed to deliver yoga programmes for local authorities and a physiotherapy clinic.

I hope that you are all well and that you are managing the deconfinement carefully. I know that most, or all of you have been keeping active over the many weeks since we last met and I hope that you are feeling the benefit of it.

As you may know, gyms in this part of France have been allowed to open again and I believe that yoga studios fall into the same category. However, social distancing is still required in order to minimise the risk of infection and, unfortunately, I really don't think that this is possible at Yoga Les Farges. Having had a look at the dimensions of the studio, even one metre of social distancing could barely be consistently maintained during a class and I think that neither you nor I would want to risk all that has been achieved over the last few months.

Of course, I would really love to see you all again and to return to our Monday and Wednesday classes, so I will be keeping a close eye on the advice provided by the government, in the hope that we might be able to get together again in the not-too-distant future.

Keep active everyone -- it's a great way to help boost your immune system and to preserve a positive mind-set.

WORLDWIDE SURVEY OF FITNESS TRENDS FOR 2019

For the last 13 years, the ACSM’s Health and Fitness Journal has circulated an electronic survey to thousands of professionals around the world to determine health and fitness trends.

In 2018, the online survey was sent to 37,075 health and fitness professionals connected to the ACSM. Responses were received from the UK, Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Japan, India, Italy, Russia, Singapore, Taiwan and the USA. Ninety-three per cent of the survey respondents had more than 10 years of experience in the industry.

Yoga was ranked number seven in the 2019 survey, retaining its top ten position over the last five years and has never been lower than number 14 on the list.

I intend to start a new general yoga class on Tuesday mornings at 9.30am, beginning when there is an adequate number of students enrolled.

Here is a link to a very interesting article on some of the mental health benefits of yoga. It's from Harvard University's Medical School, so it is from a very reliable source.

"... for many patients dealing with depression, anxiety, or stress, yoga may be a very appealing way to better manage symptoms. Indeed, the scientific study of yoga demonstrates that mental and physical health are not just closely allied, but are essentially equivalent. The evidence is growing that yoga practice is a relatively low-risk, high-yield approach to improving overall health."

A growing number of studies indicate that yoga may be a beneficial treatment for mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder.

The Monday and Wednesday 9.30am classes are now full, but I will be starting a new general yoga Monday class at 11.30am on Monday 14th October. This class will be suitable for all abilities and I already have one or two interested students, so please contact me soon to secure a place.
