Ever wondered how you can touch your nose with your eyes closed? Or how you can walk without watching your feet? It's all thanks to your proprioceptive system, a hidden sense that tells your brain where your body parts are in space.

When you walk, the pressure on your feet - from your skin, muscles, and joints - sends signals to your brain about your body's position. It's like a constant conversation between your feet and your brain!

Your eyes play a crucial role too. They keep your head aligned with the horizon, helping you maintain balance and navigate the world around you. 👀🌍

But did you know that your jaw also plays a part in this system? Within the oral cavity, the jaw acts as a proprioceptive system. When it's dysregulated - due to missing teeth, poor tongue posture, or mouth breathing - it can affect your head position, which in turn impacts your upright posture and sense of balance.

An imbalance between your feet, eyes, and jaw can affect your vestibular system - the part of your inner ear and brain that controls balance and posture.

The vestibular system is like your body's built-in level. It keeps you upright and helps you move smoothly. But when it's off, you might feel dizzy or have trouble standing straight.

So next time you're walking, jogging, or even just standing, remember - it's not just muscle memory. It's your proprioceptive system at work!

Do you suffer from forward head posture?

It's a common problem, especially for those who spend long hours sitting at a desk.

But did you know that your eyes could be contributing to your neck pain?

Here are 4 ways that your eyes can lead to forward head posture

1. Compensation for visual disturbances: When one eye is weaker or has reduced acuity compared to the other, the brain might compensate by tilting or turning the head to better align the stronger eye with the visual target. Over time, this compensatory mechanism can become habitual, leading to the development of forward head posture.

2. Eye strain and discomfort: If an eye imbalance results in eye strain, a person may unknowingly alter their head position to alleviate discomfort. This might involve leaning the head forward, tilting it to one side, or both, gradually leading to forward head posture.

3. Convergence insufficiency: This is a condition in which the eyes have difficulty turning inward to focus on near objects. To compensate for this, an individual might unconsciously lean their head forward to bring the object closer and make it easier for the eyes to converge. Prolonged and frequent use of this compensatory mechanism can result in FHP.

4. Binocular vision dysfunction: If there is a misalignment between the eyes, the brain can struggle to merge the images from each eye into a single, cohesive image. A person might adjust their head position to improve the alignment, and over time, these adjustments may lead to forward head posture.

When your eyes are strained, your neck muscles can compensate by tensing up, leading to pain and discomfort.
That's where NeuroVision comes in.

The cervical spine has an important role in providing the proprioceptive input, and this is reflected in the abundance of cervical mechanoreceptors and their central and reflex connections to the vestibular, visual and central nervous systems

Cervical sagittal alignment (or the alignment of your upper neck and head) affects sensorimotor control and the Autonomic Nervous System (ANS).

Normal posture is essential for sensorimotor control, potentially because it allows normal processing of afferent information, which goes into the brain.

Our central nervous system is our brain and the spinal cord connecting to every muscle, organ and tissue in the body, of course, so the findings of this study are relevant to everyone.

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗷𝗮𝘄 𝗮𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲?

According to recent research studies, there are correlations between different craniofacial morphologies and posture.

Change in the mandibular position (lower jaw), leads to changes in the proprioceptive and periodontal afferents, which affects the center of foot pressure (COP). Conversely, changes in body posture may also affect mandibular position.

So a class II leads to an anteriorly displaced posture and a Class III leads to posteriorly displaced posture.

In conclusion, the correlation between malocclusion and posture and balance can have a dramatic impact on performance.

This is especially relevant to those invested in athletic pursuits.

"Every inch of forward head posture increases the weight on your cervical spine by an additional 10 lbs. (4.5 kg)."

Some believe the first step in restoring proper muscle balance is to mobilize dysfunctional joints, this could not be further from the truth!

To reprogram these neuromuscular pathways you must address the “sensory organs" that send input to your brain. The jaw is just one of them.

When treating functional problems you MUST look beyond the symptoms and start treating the body as a global entity.

The Temporo Mandibular joint (TMJ) is the area where the temporal bone and the condyle of the mandible come together.

To understand how your TMJ causes your neck pain you have to understand the relationship the jaw share with your body. .

For the most part, TMJ dysfunction is driven by dysfunction in one or more of the muscles that keep the joint in place which affects the pressure of the disc. And when it comes to the musculoskeletal system there’s really no such thing as isolation.

This means that a misalignment in your TMJ can easily affect the conditions of other muscles that both respond to and influence the position of that joint and the position of your head neck and upper body.

In this way the muscle tension or weakness and movement dysfunction that starts at the TMJ is transmitted to your neck shoulders upper back and possibly your lower back.
