Sometimes, the biggest impact of a City-to-City Exchange goes beyond knowledge.
It sparks momentum.

💬 “We gained a deep understanding of how cities can successfully navigate the complexities of securing and managing EU funds. We also saw sound strategies and interesting projects at work.”

In Villanueva, the exchange didn’t just bring ideas but it strengthened confidence and ambition within a newly created EU funding team.

Since then, they are already:
🔹 Developing a Sustainable Urban Development strategy
🔹 Applying for Erasmus+ and youth solidarity projects
🔹 Planning new initiatives to raise awareness about the urban environment, flora and fauna

Because when cities connect, they don’t just learn, they gain the drive to move forward.

In 2020, the New European Bauhaus began as a question: 𝙃𝙤𝙬 𝙘𝙖𝙣 𝙬𝙚 𝙡𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙗𝙚𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝙩𝙤𝙜𝙚𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧?

Today, cities across Europe are turning that vision into reality –redesigning spaces, strengthening communities, and shaping greener futures.

This June, the 𝗘𝗨𝗜 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝘆 𝗟𝗮𝗯 event 𝗼𝗻 𝗡𝗘𝗕 gathers the people behind these transformations:

💠 What do cities need for the future? Answer our Forward-Looking Survey !

Cities across Europe are facing rapid change — from climate and inclusion to housing, mobility and local resilience.

To help you build better cities block by block means knowing your priorities. What challenges does your city face? What resources do you need? What are the biggest trends impacting your city?

The Forward-Looking Survey, organised every two years by the European Commission and the European Urban Initiative aims to:
🔍 understanding the evolving support needs of cities of all sizes
🔍 shaping future EUI services and opportunities
🔍 informing EU Cohesion Policy and beyond with evidence-based insights.

By taking part, your organisation can add its own brick to a wider European reflection on the future of sustainable urban development.

📣 We want to hear from as many voices as possible. If you represent an urban authority, work in a regional or national authority, or if you are an urban practitioner, researcher, or part of an organisation involved in urban development, this survey is for you.

🗓 Open from 7 April to 5 June
🌍 Available in 24 EU languages
🕒 Takes around 20 minutes to complete
🔒 Allows anonymous responses

𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐚 p𝐞𝐞𝐫 r𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐄𝐔𝐈?

It’s not about being “the ultimate expert.”
It’s about sharing, learning, and shaping stronger Sustainable Urban Development (SUD) strategies - together.

Here’s why you should join:
🤝𝗦𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆
Support fellow cities in strengthening their SUD strategies - and bring back fresh insights to improve your own. Peer review is EU solidarity in action.

🛠️𝗦𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀
Go beyond discussion. Help refine governance models, improve citizen engagement, and co-create practical, realistic recommendations. You’ll also discover new approaches to monitoring, financing, and long-term planning.

🌍𝗦𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻
Connect with practitioners across Europe who care about sustainable urban futures. Many peer reviewers build long-term partnerships that go far beyond the review itself.
Think: “𝐼’𝑚 𝑛𝑜𝑡 𝑎𝑛 𝑒𝑥𝑝𝑒𝑟𝑡; 𝐼’𝑚 𝑗𝑢𝑠𝑡 𝑑𝑜𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑚𝑦 𝑗𝑜𝑏”?
Perfect. That’s exactly who we’re looking for. Every city big or small has valuable experience to share.

What does a Peer Review look like?
🔸Welcome session in the host city
🔸Study visits linked to the SUD strategy
🔸Small-group work to develop concrete recommendations
🔸Informal exchanges & networking with committed urban practitioners

📢 The peer reviewer call is now open! https://urban-initiative.pulse.ly/gxpxjxpddr
