In Gestalt therapy, this is where existential freedom takes form: not in controlling what arises, but in how we relate to it.
Regulation allows us to stay present with emotion, rather than be consumed by it.
Regulation is relational and embodied.
Emotion exists for a reason; it has a function.
Its intensity can be adjusted — not eliminated.
So, regulation is not “getting rid of emotion”; it’s staying with it in a way that allows movement and integration.
It’s how we stay connected, responsive, and free, even when life feels out of control.
