Welcome back to the PMS ALCHEMY Series 🌹
In Episode 1, we explored what happens when progesterone and estrogen drop before your bleed — and how that takes away some of your natural calm, motivation and emotional stability.
Today is all about the nervous system.
When these hormones fall, your brain loses part of its support for:
GABA (calm, safety, regulation)
Serotonin (mood, emotional resilience)
Dopamine (motivation, pleasure, reward)
Which means your system becomes more sensitive to stress and reacts faster.
Your body is constantly scanning for cues:
“Am I safe? Or not safe?”
With less hormonal cushion, your brain reads stressors and emotions as bigger, louder, more urgent.
This can push you into:
Fight/flight: anxiety, anger, irritability, overwhelm
Freeze: numbness, shutdown, exhaustion, avoidance
You are not dramatic.
You are not weak.
You are not “too emotional”.
Your brain is literally working with less neurochemical support for calm, clarity and resilience — while being more reactive to anything that feels unsafe, misaligned or unresolved.
This phase turns up the volume on what is already living in your body.
Instead of asking:
“What’s wrong with me?”
Try asking:
“What is my body trying to protect me from?
What wants to slow down, be felt, or be released?”
Your sensitivity is intelligent.
It is communication, not failure.
In Episode 3 of PMS ALCHEMY, I’ll share simple, science-backed nervous system tools to support yourself in this phase so you can feel calmer, safer and more grounded in your body.
Love,
Tess ❤️
