🔬 New Research Alert: The Link Between SIBO and Endometriosis
Did you know that Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO) and endometriosis may be more connected than we once thought? A 2025 study published in the International Journal of Gynecology & Obstetrics highlights a higher prevalence of SIBO in individuals with endometriosis compared to those without the condition.
🚨 Key Findings:
✅ 91.9% of women with endometriosis tested positive for SIBO/IMO
✅ Women with endometriosis had higher rates of altered bowel transit and were significantly more likely to experience constipation and dizziness.
✅ Methane overgrowth (IMO) was found in 63.2% of endometriosis patients with SIBO.
✅ SIBO was linked to a higher risk of diarrhea, while IMO was associated with a greater risk of acid reflux.
🔎 Why It Matters:
Many women with endometriosis experience unexplained digestive symptoms like bloating, pain, and altered bowel habits. This study highlights the importance of assessing gut health in endometriosis management and suggests a gut-hormone-inflammation connection that may contribute to these symptoms. Understanding this link could help refine treatment strategies for both conditions, leading to more comprehensive care.
📢 Study Conclusion:
"Abnormal digestive overgrowth should be assessed in all endometriosis cases, as this approach could offer a new therapeutic strategy." PMID: 39959963
