Cases of flu are high this winter, so if you’re wondering whether it’s just a cold or you’re floored with flu here’s what to do.

Most symptoms can be safely managed at home. Rest, drink plenty of fluids, and use paracetamol or ibuprofen to ease aches and fever. Your pharmacist can advise on cold and flu remedies.

Antibiotics won’t help with colds and flu as they are viruses – time and self-care are best.

To stop the spread:
💉 get your flu vaccination if you are eligible
🧼 wash your hands regularly
😷 cover coughs and sneezes

Please do not visit - or bring siblings to visit - if you or they have any symptoms of respiratory illness (cough, sore throat, runny nose) or norovirus (diarrhoea and/or vomiting). These illnesses spread very quickly and can be serious in those who are already unwell. Thank you for your support and co-operation.

✨ Receptionists are not “just admin.”
💙 They are patient advocates, navigating complex systems to make sure people get the care they need.
🚪 They are the gateway to the clinical team — without them, there is no access.
⚠️ But constant abuse is pushing them to breaking point.
🔥 Burnout is rising, and we are losing skilled staff who can no longer absorb the emotional toll.
💬 This is a call for compassion.
✅ Protecting our reception teams protects access to care.
💭 You don’t know what happened on the call they just took.
👉 Be kind. It matters more than you think.

Battling the flu? 🤧 Here are some top tips from NHS inform to help you feel better and stop the flu from spreading:

TREATING FLU

🔹 Rest and Sleep: Give your body the time it needs to recover.
🔹 Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water to keep yourself hydrated.
🔹 Medication: Take paracetamol or ibuprofen to reduce fever and ease aches and pains.

The symptoms of flu usually develop 1 to 3 days after becoming infected, and most people will feel better within a week.

PREVENTING THE SPREAD

🔹 Good Hygiene: Wash your hands often with warm water and soap.
🔹 Cover Up: Use a tissue or your elbow to cover your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze.
🔹 Get Rid: Bin used tissues as soon as possible.
🔹 Stay Home: If you have a high temperature or feel unwell, stay at home to avoid spreading the flu to others.
🔹 Clean Surfaces: regularly disinfect places like your computer keyboard, telephone and door handles.

Remember flu is spread by germs from coughs and sneezes, which can live on hands and surfaces for 24 hours. Follow our hygiene tips above to prevent the virus from spreading further!
