Archie at Aberdeen Neonatal Unit

Archie at Aberdeen Neonatal Unit We are the official charity of the Neonatal Unit at Aberdeen Maternity Hospital, supporting babies born too sick or too soon.

All of the money that is donated and fundraised for Archie at The Neonatal unit goes back into the Unit. We have helped provide enhanced medical equipment, pediatric training & research, and family support for the parents and carers whose babies are in the unit.

Supporter Sunday ๐Ÿ’™โšฝ

A huge thank you to the wonderful Portletico FC, who went above and beyond in October by hosting a 24-hour football match to raise funds for two amazing causes. They chose to support The Larder in Portlethen and the Aberdeen Neonatal Unit.

After an epic 24 hours on the pitch ๐ŸŸ๏ธ, the team also hosted a race night ๐ŸŽฒ, showing incredible dedication and generosity. Together, they donated ยฃ3,584 to the neonatal fund with The Archie Foundation in Aberdeen ๐Ÿ’›.

We were thrilled to welcome members of the club for a cheque presentation. Craig was joined by Jordan, Bethan, and their sons Jude and Harris ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆ. This fundraiser was especially close to their hearts following Jordan and Bethanโ€™s personal experience with the neonatal unit in 2025 after the birth of their little ones ๐Ÿ’›.

We are so happy to see how well they are all doing and are incredibly grateful for the support they have shown to families in our care ๐Ÿ™. We are so lucky to have supporters like you โ€” thank you ๐Ÿ’›.

Supporting Families When It Matters Most ๐Ÿ’™

In December 2025, families spent a total of 412 nights at The Archie Family Centre. We are so proud to offer this safe and welcoming space when families need it most. Our centre includes 19 ensuite bedrooms, providing a place to rest close to their little ones during stressful times.

2025 was our busiest year yet, with 4,744 nights spent supporting families. For many, knowing they have a place to stay removes yet another thing they have to worry about while their child is in hospital. The Archie Family Centre provides comfort, reassurance, and a sense of normality at times when families need it most.

If you would like to help us continue supporting families through the Archie Family Centre, why not take part in one of our exciting fundraising opportunities this year? Whether itโ€™s Firewalk, Marathon March, or Kiltwalk, every step you take will directly help families in need. Reach out to our team via hello@archie.org to find out more ๐Ÿ’›

๐Ÿ’™ Supporter Sunday ๐Ÿ’™

A huge thank you to the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, who went above and beyond to support The Archie Foundation in 2025.

When extreme weather forced their original Three Peaks Challenge to be postponed, this incredible team didnโ€™t give up. Instead, they took on a seriously tough alternative challenge using SFRS resources, climbing the ladder again and again to reach a staggering 3,000 metres.

Starting at around 9.45am, the team completed the challenge in just over three hours, climbing the ladder 56 times each, with three flights of stairs on every descent. An incredible physical and mental effort, all in support of children and families across the North of Scotland. Even Archie made an appearance to cheer them on!

Thank you to everyone involved and to all who donated so generously. We were delighted to welcome a part of the team to RACH just before Christmas for their cheque presentation. We are so grateful for the continued support shown by SFRS throughout the year, from fundraising events to bringing festive cheer to children in hospital.

We truly appreciate everything you do and are really looking forward to the year ahead together. ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿš’

Are financial worries making it harder for your family to access the healthcare you need? ๐Ÿ’™

The NHS offers excellent care, but sometimes it's not just a matter of health, it's the other struggles you can face before you even walk through the hospital doors.

At The Archie Foundation, weโ€™re here to help break down those barriers. Our vision is simple: every child in our supported regions should have equal access to world-class healthcare and bereavement support.

When unexpected hospital admissions or ongoing treatment put strain on your finances, our Emergency Grants can help with:
- Travel costs
- Accommodation
- Essential clothing and toiletries
- Emergency financial support when itโ€™s needed most

Your familyโ€™s wellbeing matters to us. If youโ€™re struggling, please donโ€™t hesitate to reach out.

Get in touch today to find out how we can support your family during a difficult time. Weโ€™re here for you๐Ÿ’™

We are really proud to share one of our recent projects ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿป

The Pain Nurse from the Royal Aberdeen Children's Hospital approached us with an idea to create an updated pain scale using an Archie graphic โ€“ something that would make it easier for patients to explain how they are feeling.

Clare Mackie, the talented artist behind Archie, got straight to work bringing the idea to life, with Eyecandy Graphics producing the brilliant pain tool cards. They will now be distributed to teams across RACH and Dr Grayโ€™s, helping young patients communicate their pain more clearly and confidently.

A simple idea, but one that will make a real difference every day ๐Ÿ’™

Thank you to everyone involved in making this happen โœจ

Our Story

What do we do?

Since 1984 we have helped hundreds of families. Many spend a few days in the unit, while other babies need specialist care for longer. However long you are there it can be a worrying time, emotionally, physically and financially. All of the money that is donated and fundraised for Friends of the Neonatal Unit is used to benefit babies and their families during their stay and beyond. We have helped provide enhanced medical equipment, paediatric training & research, and family support for the parents and carers whose babies are in the unit.
