We’re delighted to share that Sarah’s Sparkle has been chosen as Albyn Hospital’s Charity of the Year.

Every year, our team nominates a charity that means something personal to them. Sarah’s Sparkle is especially close to our hearts as it was founded by two of our colleagues in memory of their loved one, Sarah Bonnamy, to support local young people and organisations.

This year, it was the clear favourite, and we’re incredibly proud to be supporting the amazing work they do.

Throughout 2026, our staff will be taking part in fundraising events including the Kiltwalk and the Beast Race to help raise money and awareness for this wonderful cause.

We’re looking forward to a year of supporting Sarah’s Sparkle together.

Welcome to the Team

Inverness Outpatient Centre welcomes Mr Kevin Baird, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, to the team.

Mr Baird brings over 30 years of orthopaedic experience to patients across the Highlands and beyond. After training in Aberdeen and Glasgow, he developed specialist expertise in hip and knee replacement, hand surgery, and shoulder and elbow surgery.

He spent many years as a Consultant at Raigmore Hospital. Alongside his clinical work, he has been involved in teaching, examining and supporting the next generation of surgeons, both in the UK and internationally.

Mr Baird has also held senior roles with the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Glasgow.

Meet Mr Sriskandarasa Senthilkumaran, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, who is hosting the upcoming online patient event on foot and ankle conditions.

Known as Senthil, he’s a locally trained orthopaedic surgeon specialising in foot and ankle surgery.

He performs the full range of foot and ankle procedures, including deformity correction, arthritis surgery and sports injury management. He has particular expertise in minimally invasive (keyhole) techniques, such as bunion correction, toe surgery, and procedures involving the Achilles tendon and plantar fascia. His practice emphasises early mobilisation and evidence based rehabilitation.

Senthil completed his medical degree at the University of Aberdeen, followed by orthopaedic training across Aberdeen and Inverness. He undertook advanced foot and ankle fellowships in Glasgow and Melbourne, gaining experience in ankle replacement and minimally invasive surgery.

Exciting progress at Albyn Hospital as we move into the final stages of installing our new GE Voyager 1.5T MRI scanner.

Mechanical commissioning and testing, MRI physics, and applications training are now underway, bringing us closer to having the new system fully operational in February.

This state of the art scanner is designed to offer a faster, smoother and more comfortable experience for patients, while supporting even higher quality diagnostics and exceptional patient care.

What is incisionless, image guided carpal tunnel treatment?

Image guided, incisionless treatment for carpal tunnel is offering a new way to ease symptoms with minimal disruption.

Using real time ultrasound, the consultant can release the ligament through a tiny entry point in the wrist, avoiding the larger incisions and stitches associated with traditional surgery.

This minimally invasive approach supports quicker recovery and less disruption to daily activities.

A new minimally invasive treatment option for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

Tingling, numbness, and wrist pain from carpal tunnel can make everyday tasks harder.

A new minimally invasive treatment is now available with Mr Suddhajit Sen, Consultant Orthopaedic Hand and Wrist Surgeon who works at our Inverness Outpatient Centre.

Using ultrasound guidance, Mr Sen is able to release the ligament through a tiny incision made in the wrist - a simpler alternative to the traditional 2–5cm incision that requires stitches. Treatment takes place at Albyn Hospital in Aberdeen.
