Why do you need Fire Risk Assessment

The reasons why you need a fire risk assessment of your property can be to:

• Identify any potential fire threats and concerns
• Reduce the dangers as low as you can.
• You must also examine the measures to take to protect the safety of individuals on and around your property.
• You need to ensure that important measures are supplied and installed, including escape routes, lighting, training, etc.

The fire risk assessment can reduce the chance of fire starting on site.

Into Dublin and parked up in one of the car parks with metal sliding gate to get in. The parking is on slope and asked one of the security guards why it’s like that and it’s to do with the rain and how it’s easier to run off. Fantastic way to stop flooding and environmentally friendly and global warning aware!

The Working at Height Regulations are designed to prevent death and injury from falls at Height

• do as much work as possible from the ground.
• ensure workers can get safely to and from where they work at height.
• ensure equipment is suitable, stable and strong enough for the job, maintained and checked regularly.
• not overload or overreach when working at height.
• take precautions when working on or near fragile surfaces.

If you cannot avoid working from height, you will as a result take a PREVENT or MINIMISE approach to your work. This means either putting the systems in place to PREVENT a fall or to MINIMISE its risk.

ISO 45001 the new standard replacing OHSAS 18001.

ISO 45001 is the new international standard for occupational health and safety (OH&S) management and will replace the existing OHSAS 18001 standard.

ISO 45001 is based on the same high-level structure as the quality and environmental management system standards, ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015, so for organisations who use those standards the new structure and common features of ISO 45001 will be familiar.

What are the benefits of using ISO 45001?

It helps organisations improve their OSH performance by:

- developing and implementing OSH policies and objectives
- establishing systematic processes
- determining hazards and eliminating or controlling them
- establishing operational controls
- evaluating performance
- ensuring workers take an active role

The final version of the standard is due to be published in March 2018.
