When we read this story, it really resonated with our family. Whilst Urban Wellness Hub and Urban Wellness Float are not on the scale of
Marshalls Farm Shop nor Captain's Table nor some of the many businesses highlighted in the P&J, by coming together to lobby the government.

We all have one thing in common - we are all family owned, and all facing the same challenges regarding rates, increased taxes, increases in energy costs, increases in all the consumable products we need to operate our business.

We thought this story suitable for sharing with our followers, as it's an honest reflection of the current challenges many small businesses are facing.

Owners of the popular Kintore business lift the lid on the pressures facing independent businesses across the north-east as they back a region-wide campaign against rising government taxes.

Heartbreaking story, sharing to raise awareness 💕✨

Francesca from Little Lives First Aid has a child’s first aid course to learn life saving skills on Tuesday 24th March at Urban Wellness Hub 💚

This is Joanne. Her nine-month-old daughter had not long started taking her first steps when the family experienced an unexpected and terrible tragedy 💔

Back in 2012, Joanne had only just returned to work when she took a call from Millie's nursery.

They said Millie wasn’t breathing properly, Joanne assumed it must have been asthma as she too suffered from it when she was young.

Joanne immediately left work and went to the hospital where Millie has been taken. She says when she arrived it was ‘very clear’ her first born had passed away.

A later investigation found that Millie had choked on mashed potatoes while eating her lunch. Joanne said nobody was ever found at fault for Millie's death following the coroner's investigation.

Joanne said: "I didn't want to be here; she was my only child. We went from being a family to just being me and my husband again. That was really hard.

"I'd only just gone back to work as well. I had all these guilty feelings that if I'd have just had another week off work, this wouldn't have happened.”

Joanne’s house backed onto the nursery’s garden and she felt she could not go back home. She and her husband moved in with her sister-in-law for a few months before eventually selling the house.

Joanne would drink and sleep during the day so that nobody around her could comfort her and see how she was, saying ‘she wasn’t in a place to speak to anybody at all’ 😔

Joanne was diagnosed with post traumatic stress disorder from what had happened that day, after she went to be assessed as her depression got ‘deeper and deeper.

Joanne said she started to receive "fantastic" help after being assessed by the psychological services at Wythenshawe Hospital ❤️

Joanne said she also found solace talking to people online from all over the world. One of those people was a lady in New Zealand who’s son died in a similar way to how Millie had died, Joanne went to meet her there and it helped her get through that period of her grief.

Before this she couldn’t picture having any more children, but after staying with the family for three weeks, something changed for Joanne.

Joanne retrained as a counsellor and went on to have two boys, now aged eight and 11, with her then-husband. However, the couple split up in 2019. She has since had a daughter, who is now eight months old, with her new partner, and the couple are due to get married in a few months.

Joanne said taking the decision to have another child following Millie's death was a tough one, having lost her sense of safety and trust, particularly when it came to child care. However, she was determined not to pass her fears on to her children.

She said: "My sons talk about her like she's here, like they met her. We go down to her grave together. They know all about her, they see pictures, they talk about her, and they never even knew her.

"That was a big thing for me, to make sure she's always remembered within my family and especially with any other children that I had."

Three months after her daughter's death, Joanne set up Millie's Trust in memory of her daughter. The charity aims to provide free first aid training to anyone who is pregnant or has a child under 12 months old. The trust also provides a paediatric course for nurseries to ensure more nursery staff become trained in first aid.

Through Millie's Trust, Joanne is currently undertaking a 140-day challenge fundraiser to help support the charity ❤️

Good luck Joanne and we are so sorry for your loss, your story is truly inspirational.

“In a world where online criticism can be swift and brutal when things go wrong, it still amazes me the thought and time that people put into the kind feedback that we recieve. This message was from another lovely family that dined in the restaurant last weekend.

To everyone who has taken a moment to share something positive with us - thank you. It never goes unnoticed” ❤️
