Happy hand-in day to our Stage 4 MPhys students! 🎉

Yesterday marked the submission of their final research projects (dissertations) - a huge milestone after years of hard work and dedication. It was fantastic to see students on campus celebrating and capturing the moment.

Our Stage 3 MPhys and Stage 2 MSc students have had a busy week welcoming a fantastic range of external speakers delivering teaching on specialist topics!

Physiotherapists Gavin and Dominic from the Learning Disabilities team delivered an informative session, including practical teaching on the technique of abdominal massage.

Physiotherapists Bex, Nicola and Lindsey from RACH also provided insightful teaching on Paediatrics, while Yvonne (NHS) and Laura () led engaging sessions on Pelvic Health and Mummy MOT.

Alongside this, Midwifery Lecturer Maria delivered a valuable session on Ante/Post Natal Care.

It’s incredibly valuable for our students to learn from clinicians and specialists working in these areas, and we’re very grateful for the time and expertise our external speakers share with us each year - thank you! 🙌

I'll try to take more photos next time! 😂

Last week we said a fond farewell to Paul Moran as he returns to a clinical role in the NHS.

It was incredibly hard to say goodbye to Paul, who has been our Team Lead for many years. We will greatly miss his knowledge, unwavering support, kindness, and brilliant sense of humour - qualities that have made such a lasting impact on our team and students alike.

Many of you will have fond memories of Paul, who joined the lecturing team in 2015. If you have a story or message you’d like to share, please do add it in the comments - we know he would love to read them.

Of course, we couldn’t let him go without a team night out at Legends Sports Bar for some pool and darts. Fittingly, Paul won the pool tournament. While some of the team might say they let him win 👀, it was certainly well deserved! A great night had by all.

Paul was, of course, an avid supporter of Liverpool FC (really? We had no idea… 😉) and particularly enjoyed reading the comments left by students in the Liverpool 2026 Annual - a lovely and thoughtful touch.

Swipe to see Paul’s gift to the team, which we will proudly display on the office wall (and which definitely gave us a giggle!).

We wish him every success in his new role - they are so lucky to have you, Paul!

Today our Stage 3 MPhys students took their learning to the water with hydrotherapy teaching sessions at the RGU Sport pool - a fantastic example of applied learning in action. The sessions provided students with valuable hands-on experience using hydrotherapy principles to support rehabilitation in a variety of patient groups. Both informative and fun!

One of our DPT students, Gloria, is looking for participants for her study on the experiences and perceptions of remote delivery of rehabilitation for neurological patients and physiotherapists in Scotland. If you have been diagnosed with a neurological condition and have received physiotherapy via digital apps, phone calls, video calls, text messages, emails, WhatsApp, online sessions or websites, Gloria would love to hear from you. Scan the QR code or reach out to Gloria at g.nyarko@rgu.ac.uk.

Presenting your Physiotherapy Lecturers of 2025 – baby edition! 👶✨

To mark the end of another calendar year, the team came together for a Christmas meal, and one of the highlights was a baby photo quiz! We couldn’t resist sharing them with you all.

Students: how many lecturers can you correctly match to their baby photo? 👀🎄

Now that he’s had a chance to settle in, we’re excited to officially welcome Nigel Robinson to the team! 🎉

If you’ve had on-campus teaching during the second half of Semester 2, you’ve likely already met him. For those who’ve been out on placement - you’ll have the pleasure of meeting him in the new year!

Nigel joins us with a wealth of MSK experience, having worked for many years in NHS Tayside and more recently within his own private practice. We’re delighted to have him onboard on a part-time basis alongside his clinical work.

As you can see, he’s already getting stuck in with Petty’s Musculoskeletal Examination and Assessment 📚🧐

Welcome to the dream team, Nigel! 🙌

We have some exciting alumni news to share!

Meet Saltire Tides 🌊- three women taking on the World’s Toughest Row in December 2026. Lauren (RGU MSc Physio alum & MSK/expedition physio), Ellen (NHS physio) and Jenna (trainee paediatric surgeon) will row 3,000 miles from La Gomera to Antigua, battling 40-ft waves, unpredictable weather, sleep deprivation and nonstop 2–3 hour rowing shifts for around 40 days at sea. Growing up by the coast and bonded by a love of adventure, they’re rowing to show that with determination, ordinary people can achieve extraordinary things - and to raise funds for The Archie Foundation, supporting children and families across Scotland through unexpected health challenges (scroll for upcoming fundraising event poster and QR code).

Training is well underway, and they’re currently seeking sponsors to help make the crossing possible. From Title, Gold, Silver & Bronze sponsorships to sponsoring an oar or joining the £250 Club (a great option for small businesses or groups who would like their name or logo on the boat) - every bit of support helps 🚣‍♀️💫

Follow their journey:

We wish Lauren and her team all the best with their training, and look forward to following their journey!
