Presenting your Physiotherapy Lecturers of 2025 – baby edition! 👶✨

To mark the end of another calendar year, the team came together for a Christmas meal, and one of the highlights was a baby photo quiz! We couldn’t resist sharing them with you all.

Students: how many lecturers can you correctly match to their baby photo? 👀🎄

Now that he’s had a chance to settle in, we’re excited to officially welcome Nigel Robinson to the team! 🎉

If you’ve had on-campus teaching during the second half of Semester 2, you’ve likely already met him. For those who’ve been out on placement - you’ll have the pleasure of meeting him in the new year!

Nigel joins us with a wealth of MSK experience, having worked for many years in NHS Tayside and more recently within his own private practice. We’re delighted to have him onboard on a part-time basis alongside his clinical work.

As you can see, he’s already getting stuck in with Petty’s Musculoskeletal Examination and Assessment 📚🧐

Welcome to the dream team, Nigel! 🙌

We have some exciting alumni news to share!

Meet Saltire Tides 🌊- three women taking on the World’s Toughest Row in December 2026. Lauren (RGU MSc Physio alum & MSK/expedition physio), Ellen (NHS physio) and Jenna (trainee paediatric surgeon) will row 3,000 miles from La Gomera to Antigua, battling 40-ft waves, unpredictable weather, sleep deprivation and nonstop 2–3 hour rowing shifts for around 40 days at sea. Growing up by the coast and bonded by a love of adventure, they’re rowing to show that with determination, ordinary people can achieve extraordinary things - and to raise funds for The Archie Foundation, supporting children and families across Scotland through unexpected health challenges (scroll for upcoming fundraising event poster and QR code).

Training is well underway, and they’re currently seeking sponsors to help make the crossing possible. From Title, Gold, Silver & Bronze sponsorships to sponsoring an oar or joining the £250 Club (a great option for small businesses or groups who would like their name or logo on the boat) - every bit of support helps 🚣‍♀️💫

Follow their journey:

We wish Lauren and her team all the best with their training, and look forward to following their journey!

Teaching has wrapped up for many of our Semester 1 modules, and it’s been a busy few months for students and staff alike. I didn’t manage to capture as many photos and videos as planned, but here’s a great shot of some of our MSc Physiotherapy Stage 1 students during their ICU practical last week.

Students are now gearing up for exams, presentations, and coursework before heading off for a well-deserved festive break.

Wishing everyone the very best for the exam period - you’ve got this! 🎓✨

✨ Chartered Society of Physiotherapy Annual Conference 2025 - Future Directions in Physiotherapy ✨

Lots of RGU representation at this year's CSP Conference in Wales!

Principle Lecturer, Paul Moran, delivers a lightning talk on the Peer Exercise and Community Activities Placement (PECAP) model. He also has a poster on display for a recent study exploring the impact of practicing core respiratory skills on volunteer patients.

Physiotherapy Lecturer, Emma McBoyle, also has a poster on display for an MPhys research project she supervised which explored participant experiences of a student-led exercise group for acquired brain injury. Authors also include MPhys graduates who conducted the study under Emma's supervision (spot your names!).

Associate Dean, Dr. Kay Cooper, delivers a talk on her realist evaluation of models of long COVID community rehabilitation in Scotland.

Associate Deans, Dr. Julie Jones and Dr. Donna Wynne, are part of a panel for a workshop about enhancing physiotherapy education through student-led clinics.

MPhys student and CSP student rep, Maia, is also there and has been commended for the role of Student Influencer!

Great work team 💪🏻💜

Have you been diagnosed with a neurological condition?

One of our DPT students, Gloria, is conducting a study exploring the perceptions and experiences of patients and physiotherapists regarding remotely delivered physio services in rural and remote areas of Scotland. If you have been diagnosed with a neurological condition, she would like to hear from you. If you're interested, click on the link below or contact g.nyarko@rgu.ac.uk.

Some of our MSc 1 Physiotherapy students recently organised and undertook a National Sports First Aid course, and all passed! This qualification allows them to cover Scottish Highland Football Clubs and be prepared to respond to medical emergencies in any sport. A fantastic CPD opportunity - well done to all involved!

Thanks to for coordinating and for delivering the course.

It was an emotional one today as we said farewell to Victoria Park, who had her last working day with us.

Victoria has been a Lecturer in Physiotherapy at RGU for 16 years, and Course Lead for the MSc Physiotherapy programme for many of those recent years.

If you've been lucky enough to know her, you'll know she brings joy, laughter, and creativity wherever she goes. Staff and students alike will deeply miss her inspiring wisdom, warmth, and dedication to supporting the successful learning and development of our graduates.

We wish Victoria all the very best in her new adventures and creative endeavours. We look forward to keeping in touch - and to many more paddleboarding sessions, saunas and cold-water dips together!

We also love the way our current Stage 1 MPhys students marked her last official day of teaching this week - scroll to view!
