The toddler years are a time when they are beginning to realise they are an individual. With this they can start to challenge what’s ok and what’s not. They still want to be close to caregivers but begin to explore safety points. This is fantastic for their development long term. Anyone heard of attachment theory? This is where lifelong understandings of healthy relationships can start.
Remember, they are trying to learn and understand. Why it’s time to leave isn’t understood. All they know is they want to play and have no knowledge of the future. They haven’t developed that understanding yet.
Calmness and explaining helps develop that understanding. They aren’t naughty, simply learning. Distractions and moving to a different place can help a particular stubborn moment as toddlers attention span can be short.
Yes, it’s harder said than done. We all do our best.
Remember they aren’t being naughty, just seeking information without having the language skills nor emotional maturity to let us know what they need.

💟 No longer satisfied by a feed they have done for a while?
💚 More unsettled than usual?
It might be a growth spurt/developmental leap. The 1st year of a babies life is a time of the most growth and development that they’ll ever have throughout life.
Often, around 3 months, 4 months, 5 months these leaps can be mistaken for readiness to wean (I’ve done it myself). But often with a few days of extra milk and it settles again.
Of course, trust your instinct and talk to a professional if you’ve concerns.
How do you manage these growth spurts?
