Arden & Avon Speech Therapy

Arden & Avon Speech Therapy I provide private speech and language therapy services to children (aged 3-16 Years), their families and schools in Warwickshire and Worcestershire

I have over 15 years experience working as a fully qualified and registered Speech and Language Therapist and provide high quality assessment and treatment services for a range of Speech, Language and Communication needs. This can be provided within the home or at school. If you have any concerns about your child's speech, language or communication skills please feel free to get in touch for a friendly and informal chat. I'm highly experienced at supporting children who have difficulties:
-Understanding what is said to them
-Talking; using words and putting these into well organised spoken sentences
-Using the right speech sounds and speaking clearly
-Communicating within context; speaking appropriately for a variety of reasons and in different situations with different people

I work in close partnership with those who know the child best, and aim to work collaboratively and in a complementary capacity to any involved NHS Speech and Language Therapy Service. Please visit the website for further details about me and the services I can offer. I welcome parents or schools to get in touch with any queries.

The brilliant Em (NeuroWild ), who is Autistic and ADHD herself, has produced these fabulous images and suggestions for parents, to help neurodivergent children develop a positive sense of self and identity. We’ve been talking in this way about brain difference in our household since before diagnosis and it really has made all the difference. The principles also apply to other brain types, such as ADHD, dyslexia, DLD and DCD/dyspraxia.

Today is DLD (Developmental Language Disorder) Awareness Day.

DLD affects approximately 2 children in every classroom yet most teachers (and the general public) have never heard of it. We need more awareness.

Difficulties in understanding and/or using language affects children’s access to education and continues into adulthood. DLD is lifelong but the right support and strategies can make a huge and positive impact on life chances.

This booklet produced by RADLD - Raising Awareness of Developmental Language Disorder is a really useful and detailed overview of DLD with some great, practical strategies for school-aged children.

It is especially important that teachers learn about Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) because on average two children in every classroom of 30 have this hidden condition.

DLD makes classroom learning harder, and so when unrecognized and unsupported it may impact on learning. Also a student may think they are 'stupid' because they find things hard. An understanding teacher who knows about DLD can therefore make all of the difference. Find out more radld.org
