The Abbeyfield Society was founded by Richard Carr-Gomm in 1956 to alleviate loneliness among older people who were living unsupported and with little contact with others. Some are managed centrally by the National Society, but most are managed by individual independent Abbeyfield member societies. Abbeyfield South Downs is one such society; a merger of former smaller member societies which have joined together to benefit from shared expertise and efficiencies.

Nothing says British Christmas and New Year quite like a delicious layered trifle – jelly, sponge, custard, fruit, cream… and a sprinkle of festive magic on top! 🎅❤️

From sherry-soaked classics to colourful jelly creations, it’s amazing how one dessert can bring back so many smiles and stories!

Did you know Christmas wreaths have been spreading cheer for centuries?

They began in Ancient Rome as symbols of victory and celebration, and their circular shape represents eternity and unending love.

Victorians added dried oranges and cinnamon for good luck and prosperity (and a lovely smell, and hanging a wreath on the door was believed to welcome friends and good fortune into the home.

We love bringing tradition, warmth, and a little history into our festive décor! 🎅🌟

One of our Worthing tenants has made an advent calendar for the other tenants and kindly included the staff. The bags are filled with a hand written note and a couple of chocolates. 🎄
