Niggly Knees? 🦵

If you’ve been dealing with a gradual increase in knee pain and aren’t sure what’s behind it, try these 3 simple tests at home—no equipment needed—to get a better idea of what might be going on.

1. Single-leg wall sit (aim for 60 seconds)
A simple way to test quad strength and endurance. If your quads fatigue early, your knee often ends up taking more stress than it should.

2.Heel-off bridge hold (aim for 60 seconds)
This checks how well your posterior chain is working together. Ideally, the muscles around your knee should share the load so the knee isn’t doing all the work.

3. Single-leg squat (aim for 20 reps)
This looks at your balance, control, and stability through the hip, knee, and ankle—especially how well you manage load in tougher positions like stairs or downhill walking.

If you struggled with any of these, message ā€œREBUILDā€ and I’ll send you some of the key strength work you should be including in your gym training to start fixing it.

Andy has been rehabbing his partial knee replacement with us

We often get asked about this sort of surgery and recovery.

The main thing I always say is not to put limitations on yourself.

The aim of the rehab should always be to get you at your highest level of function.

Andy is killing it - apparently he’s desperate to get back to doing burpees in the class šŸ¤·šŸ¼ā€ā™€ļøšŸ•ŗšŸ»

I posted this squat the other day and asked which side had less hip rotation.

If you said the right side, you were right šŸ‘€

In the hip rotation test, the right hip shows less internal rotation compared to the left. When one hip doesn’t rotate as easily, the body will usually find another strategy to still complete the movement.

In the squat this shows up as:
• a slight shift toward the left hip
• the left side opening more easily
• the right foot turning out slightly to create space

Nothing here is ā€œwrongā€. The body is just working with the movement options it currently has available.

The goal isn’t to create perfectly symmetrical movement. The aim is to restore as many movement options as possible, so the body doesn’t need to rely on compensations as much.

Some simple exercises you could include in your training:
• All 4s Hip aeroplanes
• Cable hinge rotations
• Back foot elevated split squat
• Quad extensions with lean

Limit the compensation by expanding the options.

As women, strength training becomes crucial as we get older… šŸ’ŖšŸ¦“
It supports bone health, protects our joints, improves balance and helps us stay independent as we age.

This 8 week programme is designed to help women over 55 build strength and confidence using weights. The focus is strong foundations, improved mobility and balance, and removing the fear of the weight room - so you finish the programme feeling capable and confident.

āœ” Physio led exercises
āœ”Clear, progressive guidance
āœ” Built for real bodies and real life

If you’ve been unsure how to begin, I am looking for 8 women to take part in the first pilot cohort starting 1st March.

Hi, I’m Amy, a HCPC-registered Physiotherapist and founder of Rebuild Physiotherapy.

Having worked across both the NHS and private sector, I saw first-hand how often treatment focuses on managing symptoms rather than addressing the true cause. I created Rebuild to change that — a space where we take the time to understand the bigger picture and treat the root of the problem, not just the pain.

Sport has always been a huge part of my life. From playing netball, to competing in CrossFit, to now playing football — I know how important movement is, not just physically but mentally too. That’s why I’m especially passionate about helping people who’ve been told they should ā€œstopā€. My goal is to show you that with the right approach, you can rebuild, return, and often come back stronger.

Wednesdays truth bomb: Pain often isn’t just about injury — it’s about movement and strength (or the lack of it). Your shoulder is designed to move through a full range, but modern life doesn’t always support that.

Let’s talk biomechanics 🦓

Sometimes, shoulder pain isn’t coming from the shoulder itself. The body works as a team and often we can lack movement and strength in one area which can lead to another area being overworked and become painful

Here’s a great example of a client I had last week…

Lizzy presented in clinic with shoulder pain. So we decided to look at the whole picture and find out what areas of the team weren’t doing their job.

For Lizzy we noticed the movement in her upper back was quite limited and her lat muscles didn’t do much. This meant the little muscles around the shoulder were being overworked.

We then worked on those areas with some specific exercises. Lizzy left the session with significantly less pain and her shoulder mobility improved massively.

šŸ‘‰ With the right assessment and exercises we can restore function, reduce pain, and get you moving freely again.

Movement isn’t optional — it’s medicine.

🌟Physiotherapist led gym sessions 🌟

Here’s what Wendy had to say …

I am now 70 and love my training sessions with Amy. I initially went to Amy about 3 years ago for a physio assessment for a stiff, sore knee, when I was worried I wouldn’t be able to do the 26 mile Mighty Hike with our walking group. I started to have weekly rehab training sessions with her, and have carried on ever since. The strength training helps my confidence. I feel much stronger and cope better with everything else!

I also managed the Might Hike šŸ’ŖšŸ¼
