Doing a mock Behaviour and Obedience Assessment with this gorgeous superstar today.

We do mock assessments as a baseline for training levels and to see any gaps that need work to get up to our public access test standards.

Although public access tests and qualifications for assistance dogs are not required by UK law, we as an organisation find it helpful to have a goal for clients to aim towards. We use our behaviour and obedience assessments as part of our public access test work to create guidelines and training plans moving forward.

This gorgeous boy, Elvis, did really well today. As with most teams, there were a couple of little things that he and his handler need to work on but they are well on track for success in the near future.

(He may also have got at least 10 extra points because he’s this handsome 🤣💕🤣)

Well done, team Elvis 🥰 What a pleasure to spend time with you today.

Accessibility: picture shows a black flat coat retriever lying on the floor in an indoor shopping mall. He is looking attentively at his handler who is just to the side of the camera. He is particularly handsome and fluffy.

A powerful piece from my friend Sean Dilley at the BBC about assistance dog users being refused entry to places unless they can show ID for their dog.

These dogs change lives. For many people they’re not optional — they’re essential.

Being stopped at the door and challenged must be incredibly difficult and frustrating.

Well worth a read. What do you make of it?

Can somebody please remind me why I don’t still live in Australia?!?!

Accessibility: video shows a handler wearing three jackets and an overcoat on a 3 degree day trying to do heel work with a bouncy golden retriever puppy in driving rain (which you can’t see on the video) and in high winds.
