What areas would you like to see improved within our local maternity services? If you can't make the meeting this Thursday, let me know what it is you'd like to see focused on (comment below) and I'll take your comments to the meeting for you. X

Thank you everyone, we are now FULL! Want to get more involved? Send me your email address to northhantsmslc@live.co.uk and tell me where and when your baby was born and I will add you to our Hampshire MVP mailing list so you hear about these sort of events first!! Mindy x
Have you had your baby in Hampshire in the last 2 years? Would you like to help shape the future maternity service? We are meeting with service users (babies welcome) and some of the midwives, in Chineham, Basingstoke on Thursday this week (21st) from 10-12. Our focus will be to come up with ideas of areas that need improving, looking at pregnancy, labour and birth and the postnatal period. It will be very informal (and a bit chaotic with babies and toddlers :) and welcoming - to secure your place please direct message me (Mindy) on this page or email me on northhantsmslc@live.co.uk

Can you spare a few moments to sign the petition?:

Maternity services are currently in crisis. With an estimated shortage of 3,500 full time midwives by the Royal College of Midwives, maternity services are suffering chronic staff shortages and unprecedented pressure caused by an increased workload.

These are not new findings, with The U.K. Whelm Study in 2018 exposing the high levels of burnout and mental health illnesses suffered by midwives in the U.K. and with not enough investment or support from the government the global pandemic has rapidly exacerbated these issues.

A recent government report in July by MPs called for urgent action to address staffing shortfalls in maternity services, along with an increase in budget for maternity services by a minimum of £200 - £350 million per year. https://publications.parliament.uk/pa/cm5802/cmselect/cmhealth/19/1902.htm

To ensure the safety of women, birthing people, our babies and all maternity staff we need urgent public support to increase pressure on the government to end this crisis with quick action and investment before the damage is irreversible. Please show your support by signing and sharing this petition and together we can provide better maternity services for everyone.

4,042 signatures are still needed! Support urgent government investment into maternity services to solve the staffing crisis

Pressure sores also known as bed sores (on your bottom)- have you had one in the days after the birth of your baby?
I have been at the regular safety meeting today with the maternity team at Hampshire Hospitals - one topic was pressure sores and an increase in these happening in local women. They seem to be more prevalent in recent months - but are they? Have they always been around? Have you had one that you have dealt with at home in recent months or in the last couple of years? If you have had one would you tell us more here or email me (Mindy, chair of the maternity voices partnership) direct on northhantsmslc@live.co.uk We are just trying to gather a bit of information so we can see what we might do to improve things.

We love seeing the mums who attend our course, swapping numbers and staying in touch. You simply can't underestimate the value of that WhatsApp group during a session of cluster feeding when the rest of the world is asleep, of the coffee and cake filled mornings with others who haven't had a chance to brush their hair.... 🥰

Our next courses run every Monday evening in July and September, at 8pm in Chawton Village Hall.

Were you induced?

I cannot emphasise HOW important it is that they receive as much feedback as possible on this. If you experienced (or were offered) an induction, any thoughts or feelings not only about the process but the information you were given in terms of your options and how induction works will be SO valuable and could really help improve our maternity services on this MASSIVE subject. xx

Thank you, this thread is now closing to brand new comments but if you made a comment yesterday (Wednesday) or this morning (Thurs) please check and see my reply as I have asked some people to clarify their hospital where it isn't in the original post - or asked you further questions in some instances, Facebook tagging doesn't always work. Thank you everyone for commenting, reading, sharing. Mindy x (chairperson, MVP)
Induction - Are you a Hampshire mum? Have you been induced in a pregnancy in the last two years and given birth at either Basingstoke or Wi******er hospital? We are interested in finding out what you were told about your induction, what you would have liked to have known, any thoughts on how it went compared to your expectation? Did you know you were able to decline? Other thoughts - were you able to keep mobile, use the water / telemetry during the process?
If you would like to comment, but not on Facebook, please email me on northhantsmslc@live.co.uk Thank you so much. Mindy

What makes our Nurturing Mama & Bump Course different?

Following your guided meditation at the end of each class, we all enjoy a cuppa, slice of cake and a good chat. A great opportunity to find out more about your fellow expectant mums, ask the experts any additional questions following the session or share any aspect of your pregnancy journey with others who 'get it'.

Mums need Mums!

Such a sweet note from one of our lovely Sep/Oct Mums.

The importance of those friends who are at the end of WhatsApp at 3am, can share, empathise, laugh and cry about the changes and challenges a new baby can bring, cannot be understimated. Meeting other mums to be is a huge part of our courses. All this coupled with practical self-care tips for pregnancy & birth, guided relaxations and the all-important cuppa & cake along with ongoing support from Susanna (KG Hypnobirthing & Antenatal teacher) & Sara (Maternity Reflexologist and Gentle Birth Practitioner).

Our next course starts this Monday 17th May at Chawton Village Hall, with further courses running in July & September.
