Cough? Temperature? Runny Nose? Poorly tummy? Taken a tumble? Eaten something a bit weird?

It can be hard to know what to do for the best sometimes, even during normal weeks, but over Christmas it can be even more challenging to know when to let things run their course, when to treat things at home and when you need to take action.

Visit the Healthier Together website or download the app for everything you need to know about routine childhood illnesses and injuries - including what to do and where to go.

Avantect – Pancreatic Cancer Blood Test for Type 2 Diabetics

SAFE-D is a clinical research study that aims to test how well a new blood test called Avantect works to detect very small signals of pancreatic cancer at an early stage.

It is known that people recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes have a slightly higher than normal risk for developing pancreatic cancer. Pancreatic cancer has no obvious symptoms in its early stages, making it difficult to diagnose when it is easiest to treat. Unfortunately, at the moment, there is no simple screening test for the disease.

If the Avantect blood test is proven to accurately detect the presence of pancreatic cancer early enough, it will have life-changing benefits for many thousands of people with newly diagnosed diabetes.

The study team is looking for patients who have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes within the last 6 months and aged between 50 and 84 years old.

Any queries, you can email the research team at the Practice at hiowicb-hsi.chawtonparkresearch.patients@nhs.net or call 01420542542 and ask to speak to a member of the research team

Please wear a Face Mask when visiting the Surgery if you are symptomatic

Unfortunately due to the current situation with the growing number of Flu cases that we are seeing in Hampshire and across the country we have seen many Hospitals, including Basingstoke and Wi******er return to the use of Face Masks when patients are visiting.

You will have by now have read or seen on the news something about this years Flu Virus and the spread of it and we would like to protect you as well as be able to continue to provide you with a service you have become used to by protecting our staff. Because of this, we have taken the decision to ask patients who are symptomatic with respiratory symptoms, a cough, sore throat, runny nose or shortness of breath, to please come in wearing a mask. If you do not have a mask to wear, we will be able to provide you with one and we would ask you to wear it whilst you are in the Practice.

If you are eligible for a Flu Vaccination and haven’t had one as yet, then there is still time to get your jab. Just call the Practice on 01420 542542 or submit an online consultation to book your jab to ensure protection.

Thank you for your co-operation and your understanding at this tough time.
