At our clinic we often see confusion around SPF numbers, textures and suitability for different skin types and tones. Here’s a clear guide to simplify things and help you make confident decisions.

✅ 𝐂𝐡𝐞𝐜𝐤 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐏𝐅 & 𝐛𝐫𝐨𝐚𝐝-𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐦 𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐞𝐥 – Make sure your sunscreen protects against both UVA and UVB.
✅ 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐜𝐡 𝐭𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐬𝐤𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐲𝐩𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐨𝐧𝐞 – If you have oily skin or skin of colour, you might prefer a lightweight gel or mineral formula that won’t leave a white cast.
✅ 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐝𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐲 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞 – Sitting next to a window, driving or spending more time outdoors? Opt for SPF 50 and reapply every two hours when outdoors.
✅ 𝐋𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐨𝐥𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞/𝐩𝐢𝐠𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐬𝐤𝐢𝐧 – If you’re treating pigmentation (melasma, PIH) you’ll want a formula that’s fragrance-free, non-comedogenic and preferably recommended by a dermatologist.
✅ 𝐓𝐞𝐱𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬 – If you wear makeup, go for a fluid or lightweight sunscreen. For active outdoor days, choose a denser cream that stays put.
✅ 𝐒𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐤 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐧e – Sunscreen isn’t a one-time step. Apply every morning as your final skincare step and reapply as needed. Consistency is what makes the difference.
