Girls Can Run

Girls Can Run Welcome to Girls Can Run, a safe place for women and girls of all ages and abilities to share their running stories, questions, experiences and more.

If you're thinking about running or have just completed another Ultra you're all welcome. Hi, I'm Charlotte and welcome to Girls Can Run. I'd love this page to be a space where women of all ages and experience can come to ask any question or share experiences without being judged. When I first started running there wasn't anywhere I could go to ask other female athletes questions that affect us different to our male counterparts and I hope this page can open up that space to girls and women out there. Whether you're unsure where to buy your first pair of shoes, or how to get from Couch to 5km, or if you've done 20 Ultras and are looking for some inspiration for your next challenge. You might want experiences from this community on how to manage your periods whilst running, or how women cope with fears of stepping out alone. Or maybe you have an inspirational story you'd like to share with others to help spread the word

Either way, we'd love you to hear from you. So please be kind, compassionate and thoughtful in your responses. I'd love it if this page can regulate itself, but we'll see how that goes! I look forward to being part of your running journey. C x

If you're interested, a little about me:
I'm not a pro athlete, I'm not sponsored and I'm not paid to promote and brands, so any opinion I give is purely based on personal experiences! I'm a clichΓ© of being a very sporty child throughout my school and uni days, with hockey being my primary passion. In 2001 I added running into the mix, running the Bath Half Marathon as my first foray into this varied and amazing sport that I now love. I've been a passionate runner for well over 20 years now and have been lucky enough to experience some incredible adventures as a result of falling in love with running. I'm and EA Leader in Running Fitness and have run more 10kms and half marathons than I can count, I've run somewhere in the region of 8 marathons but since 2013 my true love has been trail running and Ultra/Endurance running. I've run a few 50 mile & 100km trail races and in 2022 I complete the legendary Marathon Des Sables which (so far) has been the toughest and most memorable experience of my life. Next up is a 100km trail race in France, followed by a 5 day stage race in Kenya.....

I'm thinking of changing this page to be a Community style page for female runners of all experiences and abilities. There are lots of amazing female runners out there that we can follow and be inspired by, but I was thinking of trying to create a space where women and girls of any experience or ability can come to ask questions, support each other, share experiences, ask for help or anything else they want to discuss that's running related. What do you all think? Would there be a demand for something like this??

A lovely couple of days in the district with proving she’s still hard as nails!! Took to her first trail running experience in some brutal weather with the expected gusto!! I reckon she’ll leave Scott and I for dust at the Lakeland Trails marathon in June πŸ’ͺπŸΌβ›°πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ‘πŸ»πŸ˜˜

Another tough rehab/strength session today to try and get these wonky knees to the start (& finish!) line. Rep loading today with body weight and then a mean session on the machine 😫πŸ₯΅
It’s all about my weak and quads so I’d better have after all this 🀣 πŸ‘ πŸ’ͺ🏼

I wonder which I will enjoy more?!?! 😁 πŸ˜‚

Tried out the Enertor in my trail shoes today. Managed a very hilly, twisty, turny 14 miles and no knee pain again 😬🀞😁

It’s too soon to get too hopeful but that’s now 2 longer runs and so far no pain in my knees - the rest of me was screaming to stop but that’s besides the point!! I don’t know if it’s the insoles, the daily exercises, the massage or all the strength work in the gym, but so far I’m feeling a little more optimistic I’ll make the start like of the Lakeland Trails 100km in June 🀞🀞🀞🀞

The marathon/knee strength training continues!!

I had 4 different routines to do today, this one was 10 swings of the 16kg followed by 8kg pushpress (must keep elbows in next time 😳🀣) x 4 reps.

I’m really hoping all this hard work is going to pay off, it’s less than 9 weeks to go and I don’t want to jinx things but my knees are β€œstarting” to feel a bit stronger 🀞😬

Time to try out the Enertor on a tough road interval session. It’s been a strange couple of months for me having spent 4 years in barefoot shoes to transitioning back to β€œnormal” shoes in a bid to fix my painful knees. I didn’t get a single twinge today with these in my shoes so 🀞🀞 with all the glute work, physio work and PT sessions Studio 121 Personal Training - Nantwich I will make it to the finish line of pain free and then onwards and literally upwards to the Lakeland Trails 100km ultra in June πŸ™πŸ€žπŸ‹οΈβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈ
