Christmas is coming! 🎅

Christmas and New Year Opening Hours

Ambleside and Hawkshead surgeries will be closed on Thursday 25th and Friday 26th of December, and Thursday 1st January. We’ll be open as normal during the working week outside of these dates

☎️If you need assistance when we are closed, please contact 111 for urgent medical queries or call 999 for emergencies.

Please ensure you have enough medication to see you through the festive period and request any medications in good time. We are under increased pressure at this time of year, so it can take a little longer to authorise your requests.

With Christmas fast-approaching it is time to think about your medicines. Make sure you and your family don’t run out over the Christmas period. Check your stocks now, and order through your usual method. We will be aiming to get most planned supplies ready by 20 December leaving the last few days for urgent items.

The pharmacy will be open through the Christmas period, we are even open 9am to 11am on Christmas Day. The only days we will close are Boxing Day and New Years Day.

Deliveries will be made as usual, with some extra delivery days before Christmas to make sure everyone has what they need.

Check your household remedies too for headaches, diarrhoea, coughs and colds and minor injuries.

Thank you to everyone in the Coniston community using our pharmacy for dispensing and other services. The pharmacy team have worked really hard to make the changeover as smooth as possible. Thanks for all your support in this.

Here are a few tips which will continue to make everything work well for you.

📲 Did you know we can offer a free text message service when prescriptions are ready to collect? Just let us know your mobile number next time you speak to us.

💊 When collecting, we carry out some checks to make sure the right person gets the right thing. If you have a text message collection code, this will help. We will also ask you to check your own bag label and encourage you to check contents before leaving the pharmacy.

🙋‍♀️🙋‍♂️If you can’t collect, it is OK for family or friends to do this on your behalf. Where this isn’t possible and you have urgent medicines, let us know and we will try to help.

📆 Plan ahead to place your prescription requests, especially if you need deliveries. This will be more important as we get into the winter months when bad weather can affect collection and delivery. We suggest keeping a weeks medication in hand.

🅿️ Parking can be an issue in Hawkshead. For quick “in and out” collections there are a small number of spaces around the squares and very limited space in front of the pharmacy.

There are five free 30-minute stay spaces in the main car park. They are in the top corner to the left of the craft shop and near the houses.

On Saturdays and school holidays there is parking at the primary school. Please make a donation to the school if you use this.

🚌 Quite a few people are using the bus for a trip out. You can pick up your prescription and enjoy a look around Hawkshead shops and cafes, heading back on the next bus

🚛 We do deliveries mainly for people who are housebound or who have difficulty collecting. We are working on ways to give you a more exact time when delivery will be made. Watch this space!

Book, change or cancel a free NHS flu vaccination at a pharmacy

We were sorry to hear that Coniston Medical Practice will not have a dispensary as it transfers to the new service.

As the nearest pharmacy to Coniston we will be able to offer dispensing and the full range of pharmacy services to patients of the Coniston Practice. We have worked with our friends at the Coniston Medical Practice for many years in supporting people getting the medicines they need.

You can nominate us as your pharmacy by:
- Telephone 015394 36201 (we just need a few details to set your nomination)
- Ask at your GP next time you request a prescription
- Using the NHS App

We provide a planned delivery service currently once a week. This is mainly for people who are housebound or living with a disability. We may increase this depending on need.

You can also collect prescriptions at any time during normal opening hours.

We have the NHS Pharmacy First service and can provide immediate care for:
Shingles
Urine Infections (women age 16-65)
Ear infections (Children under 18)
Infected insect bites
Infected sore throats
Sinusitis
Impetigo

We have a comprehensive stock of over-the-counter medicines

We provide seasonal flu vaccine and expect to provide covid vaccine from 1st October

We provide a travel health service which includes provision of vaccines and other travel medicines.

We provide NHS contraception services including emergency and oral contraceptives

Christmas and New Year prescriptions
Christmas is fast approaching. Don’t let yourself run out of medicines! Check your stocks and plan well ahead.
Request your prescriptions 7 days before you run out, and collect while you still have a few days left. This gives us time to order any items and resolve any issues.
If you make requests direct from the GP through an App, online or in writing, please allow 4 working days before collecting.
If you are on Repeat Dispensing, giving the pharmacy a call the day before you wish to collect will help us have everything ready for you.
For housebound patients who get medication delivered, dates will be as usual.

Not long now!
