This talk is about meditation, but much is also relevant to AT. Their scientific research shows that beneficial effects are seen in the brain after only eight weeks of meditating for about 20 minutes a day. Steven Laureys talks about effects in three areas: thinking, senses, and emotions, with developed awareness of our reactions in these areas too. He recommends further research, suggests that different meditation methods may suit different people, and mentions the importance of attempting to integrate what is learnt in meditation into practical daily life.
Alexander Technique covers these three areas too - with the extra dimension of working first of all with the body, which for most people gives direct physical benefits for comfort, good posture and health. As everything is connected within us, the work we do with the body calms the nervous system and affects the more subtle systems of thought, senses and emotions, and these benefits can be immediate. Conscious awareness of these subtle systems often develops a little later and is of course helped by individual lessons but, as with meditation, conscious awareness can eventually lead to conscious control.
I have described only a few points from the interview and I recommend watching it yourself if you are interested.
