Dave's arm has fallen off!! Easily fixed, but the important question to follow is WHY? if we want to prevent it from happening again.

Thankfully, this is exactly what I do at The Gravity Technique.

Why did Dave's arm fall off? Because it had been working too hard.
Why? Because its the only complete arm he has so it does everything.

Ok, now we know that Dave has a compensatory movement pattern, he can start to move his whole body slightly differently to ensure that the arm doesn't overwork and subsequently fall off again. Problem solved.

Sounds silly on a plastic skeleton, but this is actually the way things work in our bodies too.

When we follow the Why of an issue down to its root cause, we can then make small changes that stops unnecessary wear and tear on the joints and the pain goes away. Just like that.

**No skeletons were harmed in the making of this image and Dave is now restored to his former glory.

No, I’m NOT a Physio...

I'm a Human Movement Expert. Let me explain what that means:

I’ve been studying human movement for nearly 20 years and I’ve trained with some of the best Teachers in the world in various modalities.

I started off in Yoga sorting my own wonky body out and whilst it did help to an extent, the ‘cookie cutter’ approach to asana only took me so far.

Multiple abdominal surgeries had left me with complex compensatory patterns that weren’t useful. Even though I was regularly exercising, I had tennis elbow, cold hands (Renaud's), constant stiff neck and a ‘dicky’ right shoulder (technical term).

In pursuit of a solution, I spent years working through :
Chiropractic
Pilates
Physiotherapy
Acupuncture
Cranio Sacral Therapy
Qigong & Tai Chi
POLE DANCING (I know...)
Scarwork

None of them provided the answer I was looking for. Manual therapy was nothing without the movement and the movement was nothing without the hands on therapy.

Whilst each was useful, nothing gave me a succinct, straightforward schematic that I could replicate at home on my own.

I was tired of handing out my health and wellbeing to any third party that promised it could help.

Part of the adventures in my career had brought me to take a post-grad degree in Yoga and I started to teach others.

This showed me two things:
1. I had a knack for seeing hitches and glitches in people's movement.
2. What I was being taught in books and what I could see in the client's body in front of me didn't match up.

All humans are completely unique.

So why don't we have a movement modality that is designed for each individual? With a bit of hands-on work to release the stuck bits?

So I created the Gravity Technique.

We start by identifying what’s going on in YOUR body and not compared to some schematic that has been dreamt up by someone who thinks humans ‘should’ look a certain way.

Then I help you to understand what your body is doing and most importantly, WHY you intelligent body and brain are getting up to the things they are (and usually causing you pain in the meantime)!

Then comes the good bit - Empowerment. Education. Responsibility.

I NEVER dish out sheets of generic exercises.

I DON’T do maintenance either.

You won’t need me for longer than 6 sessions (usually 1, 2 or 4 sessions and we’re done).

You get a lovely toolkit of movements tailored to your individual needs that you can use to relax and restore the natural patterning of your body and you get to understand how your body and brain work together to create your everyday movement so you can avoid your pain pitfalls.

My 🌸Spring offer🌸 is only on until the end of March and I've got 8 places left.

“It is clearly her calling to help others in this way”. I’ve been healing folk since I was young and whilst the chubby knees may have disappeared, my grin and the drive to ensure everyone feels better definitely hasn’t.

From my early days of wanting to be a nurse to becoming a Yoga teacher in the 200's sharing my newfound Yoga knowledge with anyone willing (or just unsuspecting and couldn't run fast enough), I’ve been striving to know more, share more and impact more in the field of wellness.

I've always been convinced that we there is a pain free, healthy state available to us and I was determined to find the keys that access it.

The last 15 years have been a whirlwind of fascia research, anatomy in movement and studying the habitual and compensatory movement patterns that cause many of our chronic ailments.

Today, The Gravity Technique is a LONG way from that nurses outfit, but the ethos isn’t.

The 1:1 work I offer is life-changing, investing in this approach long term is game-changing and I’m on a mission to ensure EVERYONE (and I do mean everyone) can feel empowered to take control of their own health & wellbeing.

Also, I recently found out I’m a projector under human design which explained a lot!

It's all about mindset. Struggling to lift one knee? Here’s how a simple re-frame changes the game…

I met with my client a few weeks ago to get started with her movement re-patterning post hip replacement. She had the sheet of generic exercises from her post-op physio and we were working on optimising those too.

There was an exercise where she stood holding the back of a chair and raised her knee up in front of her. “What about this one?” I asked her.

“Oh, I don’t do that one.” She replied. “I can’t do it.”

“Show me” I said

She was quite right, no matter how hard she tried, she could not get her foot to leave the ground. This was not through lack of range of movement or muscle weakness as she was walking just fine and her gait was good.

So we took a different approach. Rather than trying to lift the leg, how about employing a different movement that would gain the same result?

Pulling the other foot down into the ground, as I’m sharing in this video clip from The Gravity Technique online session, at some point allows the other foot we want to lift to leave the floor. Keep focusing on the pull down and eventually the knee will lift all the way up.

So why didn’t my client’s leg want to lift even though she could do it?

Because her brain had decided it couldn’t. For whatever reason, either the surgery, or leg too heavy or not strong enough muscles - her brain had taken the executive decision that it didn’t want to do it.

This is where The Gravity Technique employs some lovely neuroscience to get to the bottom of what’s going on and then shifts the mindset which ultimately improves range of movement.

You literally get to move in ways you found impossible before!!

Give it try for yourself. In this short clip we were discussing the ever challenging ‘plank pose’. Because everything we do is accessible to all, it’s modified with a chair.

Let me know in the comments how you get on and if you’re ready for a revolutionary approach, head over to gravitytechnique.com to find out more about the membership and working with me 1:1.

Why do shoulders freeze? And why do we rarely ask the question “why has your shoulder frozen?”

Nope, we just barrel on in there with a whole load of symptom relievers: massage, acupuncture, stretching, the list is endless.

Yet, we never question why your highly intelligent body has decided to immobilise this crucial area (it picks up cups of tea and nice things to eat, afterall)!

Incredibly rarely a symptom is also a cause. More likely, the pain you are experiencing is coming from an unknown place in your body. Follow this trail of ‘breadcrumbs’ and it will lead you a) to a cause of your pain and b) more often than not, a solution to that pain so when it leaves, it doesn’t return.

Take frozen shoulders for example - I haven’t treated a shoulder yet, that wasn’t compensating for the opposite hip, knee or ankle.

Once we’d sorted out the crucial foundation of the body by introducing functional feet and legs, the shoulder cleared itself up and the pain was gone.

If you’re in pain, you don’t have to settle for the conventional painkillers, steroid injections etc. There is another way and I’m here when you’re ready.

Currently booking 1:1 for March onwards on zoom and in-person in the London/ Bucks/ Berks/ Oxon areas. Head to gravitytecnique.com to book your informal chat.

The Gravity Technique has a serious problem. Sometimes I wish I was ‘normal’. An Osteopath or a Chiropractor or a Physio. It would be so much easier to share with the world what it is that I do!

But then, I wouldn’t get results or comments like these.

Being unconventional, some say revolutionary, is a gift but when your views on the human body and how it moves and functions go against pretty much everything and we’ve been taught, it makes it difficult to explain why this way of working produces the life changing results that it does.

As a business owner, I’m told the client needs to ‘know, like and trust you’. How do I explain that I just know how bodies work and I can get you pain free rapidly and effectively?

How do I explain that I guide you to trust and connect to your body in a way that helps you to restore your natural pain free state. To understand your body that you no longer need to fight against, that hasn’t let you down and isn’t hurting you, it’s just calling for your attention. Then I provide you with a toolkit enabling you to respond in the right way to those requests from your body.

Just the other Monday a client said “I have NEVER thought of my body in this way before. But when you explain it, it makes so much sense. And it doesn’t hurt half as much anymore. Let’s keep going.”

People often ask me where I learnt this stuff and that’s even more awkward to explain. I didn’t take one course that fixed it all or gave me a piece of paper that made me ‘qualified’ (although I have many many certificates).

There's no substitute for personal experience either. I’ve been there. 3 rounds of abdominal surgery, scar tissue issues and finally a fibromyalgia type illness to cap it all. I know pain, we’re old friends. I also know my body what it needs and that's what I share with my clients.

PLUS hundreds of hours on a Yoga mat, in sessions with different teachers from various modalities, time in a lab on human dissection courses looking at the physical connections of fascia (connective tissue).

This is what makes The Gravity Technique unique. Of course there are other fascia informed teachers. I live in hope for the day when ALL movement teachers and manual therapists are informed on the connective tissue aspect of us and see the body as truly the functioning whole human.

If you’re up for taking responsibility for your health, you want to deeply connect to your body and understand how it works as a whole, to stop being in pain for good, to learn about the sticking plaster approach we’re sold that only fixes the symptom not the cause and how to avoid that pop me a dm and let's chat.

I am constantly disappointed when I listen to potential clients recount their conversations with various healthcare professionals.

The GP’s, surgeons and consultants we are supposed to put our trust in do a great job fixing issues and applying the sticking plaster, but when it comes to aftercare, there appears to be a gaping hole.

Whilst those of us post surgery appreciate we have been on a health journey that has changed us irrevocably, it doesn’t end with the surgery.

“It wasn’t the magic bullet I was led to believe it would be” one of my clients told me.

Replacing the disc in his spine hadn’t solved the problem, merely provided a pain free window where we could intervene and change some habitual movement patterns causing his joints to wear.

Yesterday I was chatting to lovely soul who has courageously survived breast cancer. A lumpectomy and lymph node clearance has sorted out the cancer, but her unanswered questions are the same as mine;

How do I support my health for the rest of my life post surgery?

So far, no one has been able to give her a comprehensive answer.

The reason she is in my clinic now is because 2 years post surgery she is losing range of movement in her shoulder.

On approaching her consultant for advice was given options including heavy duty painkillers, physio she has already diligently applied and finally, more surgery.

And this is the story I hear over and over again.

Having had a kidney removed aged 20, l’ve spent decades searching for answers to the same question.

Surely it’s time to start asking the questions around WHY we are experiencing pain?

Following the WHY is fundamental to getting to the root of an issue, rather than putting a sticking plaster over it.

So why isn’t this happening? In the UK alone over 6 million people are on an NHS waitlist.

Time to start asking more questions, getting more educated and back in control of our own bodies.

I’d love to hear your experiences and thoughts and if you’re ready for an empowered approach then reach out via dm.

**NB Quick note. I wouldn’t be here without the superstars who live and breathe our healthcare systems and provide us with much needed support daily.

Did you know The Gravity Technique has an Inner Circle? NO?

Well, we do!

This lovely group of like-minded folk come together once or twice a week to reconnect deeply with their bodies and explore what it feels like to move in a way that doesn’t cause wear and tear on their joints.

Inclusive and accessible, I created this space for those of us who found that ‘beginner classes’ didn’t really fit OR (as in my case) didn’t cater for post injury or surgery needs.

It’s place for people who want to shun the conventional route of handing out their health to a third party when things grow wrong and work on prevention via taking back control and responsibility for themselves.

Don’t get me wrong we all need a healthcare professional from time to time and it has its place.

But educating yourself on how your body works and how you can work with it better to keep yourself out of pain, injury and illness as much as you can surely makes sense?

Well, it does in our community.

I have nearly 25 years experience in studying human movement, fascia fitness (the connective tissue body) and joint health.

The Gravity Technique Inner Circle is an interactive space where members get to ask their questions and spend sessions deep diving into areas they want to know more about.

I could bore them to death with the latest thing I’m studying, but its not about me!

It’s about them having access to a wealth of knowledge that will help them to build a better relationship with their bodies and feel better long term.

This morning we’re getting into all things ribs, shoulders & head alignment. One of our members is experiencing tension headaches and has a job where they sit at a desk for long periods.

There is so much we can do to support our bodies better when our daily activities are putting us in awkward shapes!

The doors are open for the Inner Circle over the summer, as they always are - but they will close again in September to allow everyone to get up to speed with a very different way of working.

You can get started from as little as £47 a month.

If you’re ready to reconnect with your body and you’d like to find out more, pop me a dm and lets chat.

Your body is a reflection of your mind
Your mind is a reflection of your body

I always have time to watch The Matrix, whilst most of it is just a a made up story, there are some deep reveals in there about how our mind and body interact with each other.

And of course, that pivotal ‘red pill vs blue pill’ moment between staying in ignorance and finding out the truth.

Which got me thinking about how many of us believe the lie that we’re supposed to be in pain, supposed to feel decrepit, achy, creaky, cracky at a certain age.

Despite our best efforts at exercise and going to the gym, things are still feeling bruised and stiff every morning.

But have you ever stopped to ask the question…Is this normal?

The TV would have you believe that it is. Just rub some gel on it or take a pill and keep going regardless. You can even have bits of your body replaced when they wear out now.

But what if it’s actually the Operating System that’s old, outdated and needs an upgrade?

What if it’s the programming in your brain that needs to shift up a gear, NOT your body?

The Gravity Technique isn’t for everyone. Understanding the truth about how your body works takes work.

Shifting the old patterns and beliefs from your mind AND body can make us uncomfortable and emotional at times.

Why? Read the statement above again. This is the truth. Your mind and body are inextricably linked.

SO

You take the blue pill - you wake up in your bed, go to the gym and see the physio when injuries and pain get too bad and you get another sticking plaster over the symptoms.

You take the red pill - you stay in Wonderland where you learn about how your body and brain really work, you take control of your own health and become radically responsible for how you feel for the rest of your life.

Where are you on your journey of self discovery right now?

If you’re ready for a revolutionary approach, the red pill is in the link in my bio.

I’ve got a 1:1 few spots left for August, but September is almost completely booked out now. The Inner Circle weekly zoom classes are open to new members until end of September, message for more details.

Everyone is talking investing for their future. There’s a huge conversation about creating financial freedom.

So why isn’t anyone talking about this for their health?

I don’t know about you, but what’s the point of turning up for retirement with pots of money when your hips are fu**ed and you can’t get up and down the stairs?

That might sound brutal, but that’s the reality I am called in to help with on an almost weekly basis.

It’s no secret that people arrive in my world when the wheels have properly fallen off it. Multiple surgeries, steroid injections and now the drugs don’t work.

I would LOVE so much to see everyone investing in their health as much as they invest time and money in other areas of their life. But it does seem to be one of those areas where you don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone.

And when it’s gone. All hell breaks loose. Because without your health you have nothing.

I’ve been there. I spent 9 months of 2018 in bed with something like fibromyalgia.

So these days I’m getting my pennies in the jar of health as a daily practise.

5.30am Meditation & Journalling
7am Gym - weight training & pilates (sometimes cardio, but its not fave)!

Protein shakes, positive podcasts and inspirational audible.
Time with people I love.
Time with my Teachers.
Work I love, in a a place I love, with clients I love.

NO NEWS. NO TV. NO GOSSIP. NO BITCHING.

Am I perfect on any of the above? NO!! I’ll never be Saint Caz.

I do want to be the best thing that ever happened to me though.

Sometimes that doesn’t work out and I wake up Bitchy Caz, fall out the wrong side of the bed and hit up the coffee and pastries, telling Kevin the pigeon through the kitchen window how s**t life is and how the universe hates me.

But MOST days, I can tick MOST of the things off the Saint Caz list. And then feel just a little smug about it.

If you fancy joining me on the smug journey, in case you hadn’t heard, I’m heading back to LDN for in-person Gravity Technique sessions. I’ve got a space or two left for August if you want to book in.

Be great to see you and I can promise you it’ll change your life. Link in the bio as always 💜
