Anaphylaxis: Be Ready, Act Fast đ
Anaphylaxis is a life-threatening allergic reaction that can occur within minutes. If you or your child has a history of severe allergies, being prepared truly matters.
đ Always carry 2 adrenaline auto-injectors
Whether itâs an EpiPen, Jext, or Emerade (where available), make sure you have two devices with you at all times. A second dose may be needed if symptoms donât improve after 5 minutes.
đ Check expiry dates regularly
Adrenaline auto-injectors lose effectiveness over time. Take a moment to check the sell-by/expiry date and request a replacement from your GP or pharmacy if itâs approaching expiry.
đ Make sure youâre on the correct dose
Different devices come in adult and junior strengths. If youâre unsure which dose you or your child should be prescribed, please speak to one of our clinicians weâre here to help.
đ¨ In an emergency:
1ď¸âŁ Give the adrenaline auto-injector immediately
2ď¸âŁ Call 999 and say âanaphylaxisâ
3ď¸âŁ Lie flat with legs raised (unless breathing is difficultâthen sit up)
4ď¸âŁ Use your second injector after 5 minutes if thereâs no improvement
5ď¸âŁ Stay in hospital for observation
Your preparedness can save a life.
