PREVIOUS INJURIES & THE COLD 🥶
Ever notice that old injuries start to ache again when winter rolls around? There are actually some solid reasons why this happens:
▪️Lower air pressure in cold weather causes gases and fluids to expand around your joints. This puts extra pressure on nerve endings — giving you a not-so-friendly reminder of a past injury.
▪️Synovial fluid, the natural lubricant in your joints, thickens when it’s cold. This can reduce mobility and make your joints feel stiff.
▪️Nerves become more sensitive in colder conditions, which can make any lingering pain feel stronger.
▪️The cold often makes us move less, and reduced activity can cause tightness — especially in areas that rely on regular movement and rehab to stay strong.
Since previously injured areas often have some lingering weakness, they’re more likely to flare up when the temperature drops. Keep up with your strengthening and rehab work to help protect those spots and keep them moving well through the colder months.
