Armistice Day Service at Millway House
This morning, we gathered together at Millway House for a truly special service to mark Armistice Day — a time to pause, reflect, and remember those who gave so much for our freedom.
The service was led by our Revd. Alex Randle-Bissell, who so thoughtfully conducts all our Sunday services here at Millway House. His words reminded us of the importance of remembrance, gratitude, and peace, setting a gentle and reflective tone for the morning.
We began with a hymn that brought everyone together, followed by some moving readings . The readings were delivered with great sincerity and emotion, helping us all to reflect on the meaning of sacrifice and courage. Soon after, the sound of singing filled every corner of the home as residents, staff, and guests joined their voices to sing “Jerusalem.” It was a powerful moment — the kind of unity and spirit that stays with you long after the final note fades.
The names of the fallen were then spoken by WO1 Gary Harris from Army HQ Andover. We were also delighted to welcome several guests from the Veterans’ Breakfast Club, whose presence made the occasion even more meaningful.
When the time came for the traditional two minutes of silence, the entire room fell still. It was a deeply emotional moment, as residents and visitors sat or stood quietly in their own private thoughts, remembering loved ones, friends, and all those who served. The silence spoke louder than any words could — a shared act of respect and remembrance that brought us all closer together.
As the service drew to a close, there was a real sense of peace and connection among everyone present. It was clear that the morning had touched many hearts. We are so grateful to Revd. Alex, WO1 Gary Harris, the Veterans’ Breakfast Club, and everyone who took part or helped to make the service so special.
It truly was a morning of reflection, gratitude, and unity — one that all of us here at Millway House will remember and treasure for a long time to come.
