When I was a kid, I would step in dog crap all the time! Kids today don't know how awful it was to step in fresh dog sh*t and then use a hose to blast it off the bottom of your shoe!

A-Fest, Andover's Youth Festival returns on May 22nd. Here's how to get involved.

⭐️ PRESS RELEASE ⭐️

A-Fest, the Andover Youth Festival, is back as a live stream is back on Saturday 22nd of May from 11 am to 3 pm. A-Fest showcases opportunities for 5-18 year olds in and around Andover, and invites organisations, youth groups and local businesses to get involved and promote the services they offer to this age group.

Running since 2015, A-Fest has become a flagship event in the Andover calendar, and it is wonderful to have found a way to make sure it continues this year, and beyond. Like 2020, Covid restrictions means that we can not yet hold a physical event in Andover High Street, and so we have adapted and moved online. In 2020 over 500 people watched the event live.

Last year Chat Together organisers Katherine Bird and Catherine Randle worked with Dmitrijs Meiksans, local Member of Youth Parliament, who hosted and ensured the smooth running of the day. We are delighted to announce that he is a part of the A-Fest 2021 team, ensuring that the youth voice still is central to the event.

"Dmitrijs is Unity's youth ambassador and published a thorough report about issues important to the young people of Andover. We will be working to see if our festival can provide some answers to questions raised or help facilitate young adults providing their own solutions," says Cat Randle

As part of making sure that the achievements of A-Fest in bringing people together continues all year, Chat Together are creating a website directory of youth activities that will highlight every organisation in the Andover area.

Dmitrijs said:
"I’m very excited to be coming on board as an organiser, further working on such an important project that is able to, and has, achieved so much and promoted the essential projects and services being provided across Andover for its young people."

Katherine Bird, has been involved in the running of the event since 2016, and said:
“With lockdown and the increase in social isolation amongst young people, A-Fest is a vital tool to bring families and organisations together to make connections, re-establish social networks, and rebuild communities.”

Any organisations wanting to be involved, have a spot on the day, or sponsor A-Fest should email Chattogether@outlook.com. The closing date to participate in this year's festival is April 30th at 5pm.

We are asking local businesses and organisations to give £50 to sponsor A-Fest 2017, a family music festival held in Andover High Street on 23 April 2017. In exchange for this we will promote you via Facebook (our posts regularly reach 2,000 people), add your logo to the page, and give you a shout out on the day.

A-Fest is a community focused day supporting two local charities, the Abel Foundation and Andover and District Mencap, run in partnership with Andover College, Andover Town Centre Partnership, and Andover Youth Council. The Music Technology students from the college effectively run the day as part of their course. It gives real life experience to the course and on the basis of the 2016 event one of the students was employed by an events company and within weeks was running the mixing desk at Blissfield's. He also helped at Glastonbury and went on tour with a major UK band. Without A-Fest this would not have happened.

The college organises all of the auditions, which are a practice run for setting up and running a music event, and also gives a platform for local bands and performers. This year we have run three audition evenings, which were all fantastic music events, and have attracted significant audiences, bringing Andover residents together to enjoy local music and talent.

The event itself is supporting two Andover charities; Andover and District Mencap, and The Abel Foundation. We are delighted to be able to support and raise awareness of their work within the Town.

Andover Town Council has a remit to represent and support the Town, and to raise the profile of the good things going on in the Town. This event is a positive way to carry this out. We would like to include as many local businesses and organisations as possible, will you be a part of it?

You probably know by now that The Junction is in danger of closing. The Foyer at The Junction offers mental health support to a large number of Andover you people, the loss of this service will have a huge effect on their families, friends, and the wider community. I am working with The Junction to find long term funding solutions, and in while that is being sorted out, I have worked with them to set up a Crowdfunding page. Please do support if you can, and share if you feel it appropriate.
