We would like to thank our clients and team members who have been showing their support for BBC Children in Need!

Eg Training works with a variety of individual clients to support their speech, language, communication and dysphagia needs. As speech and language therapists, we strive to discover the potential in children and young people and encourage them to believe in themselves.

Thank you to all of our SPOTacular clients! 🐻💛

This week is International . It is a week aimed at reminding people and workplaces about what they can do to help manage stress, which is important for everyone's well-being.

Stress can manifest itself physically and emotionally and can affect our behaviour and thinking. There are many symptoms and everyone can experience it, whether that’s in school, work or within our home life.

The International Stress Management Association/Founder of Stress Awareness Day has some helpful information which can be found here: https://isma.org.uk/isma-international-stress-awareness-week

Neurodivergent children, young people and adults can find bonfire night and fireworks quite overwhelming. It can be very unsettling, noisy and unpredictable causing anxiety and stress for those with sensory differences.

The National Autistic Society has some helpful bonfire night information which can be found here: https://www.autism.org.uk/advice-and-guidance/topics/going-out-leisure-and-travel/bonfire-night

Our firework easy read can be downloaded here:https://www.eg-training.website/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/Social-story-bonfire-night-V2.pdf

1 in 4 of us will have a stroke in our lifetime. It can happen to anyone, of any age, at any time.

It's vital to know how to spot the signs of a stroke in yourself or someone else. It's easy to spot the signs if you know what to look for:

🟢 Facial weakness
🟢 Arm weakness
🟢 Slurred speech

If you see someone experiencing these signs then act FAST and call 999 for an ambulance.

As speech and language therapists, we support individuals in the phases of stroke recovery by working closely on regaining impairments in speech, memory and communication, as well as swallowing difficulties that people may have after a stroke.

PART 20 - THE FINAL PART: CARYS' JOURNEY

We have really enjoyed sharing Carys' journey to becoming a Newly Qualified Practitioner in Speech and Language Therapy and we hope you have too.

Two years seemed like such a long time at the beginning, but they have gone so fast!

We are delighted to have Carys back with us at EgT for her NQP journey. She will no doubt smash her competencies, and become a fantastic SLT.

Thanks Carys, and very well done once again 👏

Having a stammer is a speech difficulty where there is disruption to the flow of speech. This can be heavily impacted by someone’s surroundings or feelings.

Stamma is a brilliant UK organisation, who are dedicated to bringing hope and empowerment to children and adults who stammer. They exist to create a world that makes space for stammering. Where a stammer is embraced as just a difference and where no-one judges.

Speech therapy can help individuals with a stammer by using techniques to support and manage their stammer in a positive way. We believe people should be proud to use their voice with the understanding, acceptance and support that they deserve.
