Alzheimer Scotland have recently launched SafeConnect, in partnership with Police Scotland – a new safeguarding initiative to support people with dementia who may be at risk of going missing.

SafeConnect are yellow fobs that can be carried or attached to clothing. It holds secure emergency contact details and can be scanned with a smartphone using Near Field Communication (NFC) to help quickly reunite someone with their loved ones or carers.

Following a successful trial in partnership with Police Scotland, Alzheimer Scotland are now rolling out the distribution of free SafeConnect fobs across Scotland for anyone living with a diagnosis of dementia.

Unfortunately, Carnoustie Hearing Aid Drop-In Clinic (held on the last Friday of each month at Carnoustie Health Centre) is no longer able to continue due to Volunteer resources.

In the meantime, you can still access support at any of our other drop-in clinics across Angus:
Brechin – The Jenner Centre: Tuesdays, 10am–12pm
Kirriemuir Health Centre: 1st & 3rd Wednesdays, 2pm–4pm
Forfar – Whitehills HCCC: Thursdays, 1:30pm–3:30pm
Montrose – Links Health Centre: 2nd & 4th Wednesdays, 10am–12pm
Arbroath Infirmary: 2nd & 4th Thursdays, 1:30pm–3:30pm

Our amazing volunteers can help to replace tubing, supply batteries, and keep hearing aids working.

We’re currently looking for a new volunteer to help us continue offering this service in Carnoustie.
If you’re passionate about helping others and can spare a little time each month, in any volunteering role, we’d love to hear from you!

Do you or someone you know have type 1 diabetes? Then why not come along to a new free Diabetes Support Group starting in Dundee.

The first meeting will be on Thursday, 2 October at 6.30pm in the Strathmore Diabetes Centre (level 7) at Ninewells Hospital.

The aim of the support group is to provide a friendly informal opportunity for people living, or recently diagnosed, with type 1 diabetes to share their experiences and stories.

As this is a new support group those attending will help shape the group’s future including voting for the group’s name at the first meeting.

Remember this group is all about you - giving you the opportunity to connect, find your community and create a meaningful group.

So come along for a cup of tea and a chat whether you are newly diagnosed or have lived with type 1 for years, everyone is welcome - no need to book!

Arbroath Medical Practice LLP. Will be closed on Monday 6th October. We will reopen at 8am Tuesday 7th October.

Our focus today for Falls Awareness Week is on making your home safer. Checking your home environment and keeping an eye out for things that could make you slip, trip or fall can help you reduce your falls risk.

While some things might seem obvious, it’s surprising how often they’re overlooked.

It’s worth considering if there is good lighting in your home, particularly on the stairs.

Don’t let clutter gather in places where you walk as this can become a potential trip hazard so tidy stairs, steps and hallways and use handrails when going up and down stairs. Try and ensure floors are also clear of trailing wires.

Another household hazard which is often overlooked is wrinkled or fraying rugs and carpets. Think about garden paths are they even and clear free from moss which can make them slippery under foot? If you need to reach high places use a ladder and ask someone for help using it - and avoid standing on chairs.

Finally, if your pet wears a collar maybe adding a little bell to it will make you aware when they are moving around and stop them getting under your feet.
