The Dalitso Project

The Dalitso Project Working hand in hand to beat poverty through orphan care, education, food programs, vocational training, health care and house building in Malawi.

The Dalitso Project is a registered Scottish charity SC046514 The Dalitso Project is a Christian based charity working in partnership with Aquaid Lifeline to provide orphan care, education, vocational training, food programs and house building for the poorest of the poor in Malawi, the warm heart of Africa. Dalitso means โ€˜blessingโ€™ in Chichewa, the language of Malawi. As a charity we aim to bless

the people of Malawi but have found that they bless us in return. The groups involvement in Malawi began in 2007 when a group of 7 young people visited Namisu orphan school and village in the south of Malawi and got to see the tough conditions children were living in. With this they decided to fund the building and running of 2 daycare centres and 2 residences for the most at risk young people. These are based in the Thyolo and Kambilonjo regions. Each of these centres are up and running and care for 300 plus children, providing nursery care, additional education (primary schools are only open in the mornings), food and training/further education for the older young people. Since then 2 further trips of 15 have visited the projects, 2 gap students and now a yearly trip ensures that developments of these projects continue. In Kambilonjo which is a very hard to reach, mountainous region of Malawi on the Mozambique border, a health clinic has been built in partnership with the local government. This will mean that the children in our centres and the local community have access to medical care on their doorstep instead of having to take the 1 hour journey on the back of a truck down a very bumpy and often dangerous road like before. To raise money to fund these main projects we run regular fundraisers and a Sponsor Child program. More information of upcoming events and how to get involved in the Sponsor program is available regularly on the main page.

๐Ÿฅ Maternity Unit Update

They had hoped to begin lifting the roof structure into place on Monday, but work progressed so well this weekend that this photo was shared with us yesterday.

The steel roof framework is already going up at Kambilonjo, marking another major step forward for the new maternity unit.

It is exciting to see this stage reached. For years, the TA and chiefs from the surrounding villages have spoken about the need for maternity provision in the area, and that need is now becoming a reality.

We look forward to sharing the next stage of the build soon. ๐Ÿ’š

๐Ÿฒ A Week Todayโ€ฆ

A week today weโ€™ll be busy setting up tables, preparing pots of soup, and getting everything ready for what we hope will be a busy day at Arbroath Town Mission.

Our Soup & Scone Spring Fundraiser runs from 10amโ€“2pm on Saturday 2nd May, with our famous soup and scones available throughout the day.

There will also be stalls to browse and plenty of opportunities to support the ongoing work of The Dalitso Project in Malawi.

Please see the poster for full details โ€” weโ€™d love to see you there. ๐Ÿ’š

๐Ÿฅ Maternity Unit Update

We couldnโ€™t not share these photos this morning.

A team from Blantyre is now on site at Kambilonjo, with the metal roof structure currently being welded and prepared for installation.

If all goes to plan, it is hoped the framework will be ready to go onto the building on Monday.

Great to see another major stage of the project now underway. ๐Ÿ’š

๐Ÿ’š The Work Continues

Many of our recent posts have focused on the exciting progress of the new maternity unit in Malawi. That project is being made possible through a generous legacy gift.

Alongside that, all of the other day-to-day work of The Dalitso Project continues โ€” supporting children through sponsorship, education, feeding programmes, infant rescue, vocational training and much more. That work depends on fundraisers, sponsorship and donations.

One of our next opportunities to support that ongoing work is our:

๐Ÿฒ Soup & Scone Spring Fundraiser

๐Ÿฅ Maternity Unit Update

Another step forward at Kambilonjo.

The latest photos show continued progress on the build, with the metalwork now delivered and on site ready for the next stage of construction.

Itโ€™s encouraging to see materials arriving and work continuing steadily as the new maternity unit takes shape.

๐ŸŽ„ Christmas Clothes Appeal โ€“ Update

Today the clothes funded through the Christmas Clothes Appeal were purchased in Limbe, Blantyre.

Thanks to the support of so many people, we reached our target of 440 โ€” meaning two outfits for every child across our centres in Thyolo and Kambilonjo

The clothes are now on their way back to the centres where the staff will first need to organise and sort the bales before they are distributed to the children.

Photos of the children in their new outfits will follow once everything has been organised.

Thank you to everyone who supported the appeal. ๐Ÿ’š
