⚠️ Save this post as a reminder that the main sign that your baby or child is choking rather than gagging is SILENCE
If your child is gagging, you will usually hear them trying to clear their throat or the back of their mouth.
If your child is choking, there is a blockage in their airway, and they cannot make any noise.

💚🫀We do CPR to act as a manual pump for the heart, to push blood around the body to the vital organs when the heart stops or is not beating effectively.

💛The main purpose is to restore/keep a flow of oxygenated blood to the brain 🧠and vital organs 🫁 to extend the short window of opportunity for a successful resuscitation without brain damage.

🧡If the heart stops and no CPR is given, . No blood gets to the vital organs.

Just want to pop a quick message on here to thank everyone who has supported MFA Armagh this past 4.5 years. I’m handing over the reins to Ceara Lynch who will introduce herself in due course. We hope you will never have to use some of the skills we teach at our baby & child first aid classes.

We hope you will never have to help your child because they are choking.

We hope you will never have to react to your child burning their skin with a hot drink or from a pan on the stove.

We hope you will never have to perform CPR on your baby.

But, at Mini First Aid, we absolutely believe you SHOULD know how to do these things in case you are ever in that situation.

As well as dealing with terrifying situations like this, our classes teach you how to spot the signs of meningitis and sepsis, how to treat a bleed, a head bump and a febrile seizure.

🥵What is the difference between heat exhaustion and heatstroke?

When can you just cool them down at home, and WHEN should you be CONCERNED and take IMMEDIATE action??

Heat exhaustion happens when your body overheats and can’t cool itself down. This can happen during a heatwave or in a hot climate. If not treated quickly, it can turn into heatstroke, which can be life-threatening.

Heat exhaustion symptoms are often the same in children and adults, although children are likely to get irritable too.
