I don’t know about you but this spell of gloomy, wet, cold weather feels heavier than usual. I noticed how dark, cloudy days and grey skies were affecting my energy, motivation, sleep, and mood. So rather than fighting it, I am acknowledging it and trying to respond with small, steady acts of care. Here are the things I’ve found helpful - I thought it might be helpful to share😊.
Movement:
• Get outside for natural light as early in the day as you can, even for 10 minutes — daylight, however dull, helps regulate your body clock.
• Keep your body warm and gently moving; a short walk (even in the rain), stretching, or mindful movement indoors can shift stagnant energy.
Support your mind gently:
• Notice unhelpful thoughts like “This weather is awful” and gently try to reframe them, this can feel hard as we all talk about the weather a lot! But trying to acknowledge the heaviness and move on as best you can, without letting it define your whole day.
• Try a simple grounding practice: place your feet firmly on the floor, feel the connection with the ground and take five slow breaths, lengthening the exhale.
• Do a brief body scan to soften tension in the shoulders, jaw, and hands, or I have a longer body scan audio meditation on my website.
• Step outside and deliberately notice five things you can see or hear to anchor yourself in the present moment.
Protect connection and expectations:
• Send the message, keep the plan or attend the class — even if your mood suggests withdrawing.
• Lower expectations where needed and allow for steadier rhythms, earlier nights, nourishing food, and a little extra self-compassion.
Small, consistent actions — light, movement, breath, warmth, and connection — can help you move through this season with greater balance and care.
I also have lovely groups, retreats and events coming up that can be very supportive 💛. Link in bio.
