Chia Bia - Boost your nutrition the natural way by simply adding tiny, subtle tasting seeds to your d We at Chia Bia are passionate about Chia!
So much so that we were the first to bring chia seeds not only to Ireland but to Europe and since then we have worked hard to spread the word on how nutritious and versatile these small but mighty seeds are! Chia is the Aztec word for ‘strength‘ and Bia means ‘food’ in Irish. Therefore, Chia Bia quite literally means ‘Strength Food’. Chia seeds contain large amounts of fibre and omega-3 fatty acids, plenty of high-quality protein, and several essential minerals and antioxidants. Chia offers essential nutrition often missing in modern diets.

Chia, (Salvia hispanica L.) a member of the mint family is an ancient food of the Mayan, Aztec and Southwest Native American people and was a staple in their diet. Chia was so valued that it was offered to their gods in ceremonies and was also used as currency. Known as the “Running Food”, its use as a high-energy endurance food has been recorded as far back as the ancient Aztecs.
Chia Bia started when Barrie discovered the power of chia seeds when he suffered a back injury while on holiday in America. The seeds were recommended to him as they were known for their anti-inflammatory properties and Barrie experienced first-hand the health benefits of chia.
