Residents and staff at Westergate House came together this morning to remember those who served and sacrificed for our freedom. Head Chef Chris had the honour of laying a wreath at the base of the soldier statue on behalf of everyone at the home. Residents observed a moment of silence at 11am, reflecting on loved ones, and the generations that gave so much 🌺

A lovely Westergate House outing this week. Some of our residents enjoyed a relaxing minibus trip to the Aldingbourne Country Centre for morning refreshments. Super to have family join too! The cafe offered a warm, welcoming atmosphere, with delicious homemade cake and freshly brewed coffee that everyone thoroughly enjoyed.
From the comfort of our table, we had wonderful views overlooking the farm where we could watch the animals go about their day.
It was a lovely outing filled with laughter, good company, and a chance to enjoy the peaceful countryside. We're already looking forward to our next visit 😍

The skies above Westergate House were lit up in a blaze of colour and cheer last night as residents, staff, volunteers, family and friends gathered to enjoy our annual fireworks extravaganza. A wonderful evening where laughter and ‘oohs’ and ‘ahhs’ filled the air, and bursts of red, gold, blue and green danced overhead in showers of colour ✨ Adding to the pizazz of the night, Chef Konnie and her amazing kitchen team kept everyone well fed with sizzling hotdogs, homemade soup and cups of hot chocolate - perfect for keeping the chill at bay. Residents kept snugly and warm, wrapped in blankets, and enjoyed the display with their loved ones. It was an evening of sparkle, community and joy, where smiles lit up faces as brightly as the fireworks overhead. Thank you Westergate House team, volunteers; and thank you to everyone for joining us and making it such a fabulous occasion 🤩

Residents at Westergate House enjoyed a delightful musical afternoon filled with nostalgia and song. Musical entertainer Jo visited our Memory Lane community, bringing her keyboard and a wonderful selection of tunes from the 1940s onwards. As Jo performed familiar favourites, residents joined in with the words, singing along to the melodies that bring back fond memories of days gone by; a chance for reminiscence, and conversations about cherished moments from the past. Music has an incredible power to connect, uplift spirits and bring comfort through shared memories. One of our favourites was ‘Let’s go fly a kite’ – wholly appropriate for breezy autumn days! Thank you Jo, a lovely afternoon, we look forward to seeing you soon 🥰🎹🎤

🎃 Halloween Celebrations 🎃

Residents, patients and colleagues got into the Halloween spirit of things by creating beautiful autumnal displays with painted and carved pumpkins, flowers and wreaths.

Many of our care homes and hospitals hosted fun-filled Halloween events with delicious treats, mocktails, live music entertainment, costume competitions and community celebrations.

It's safe to say that everyone had a spooktacular time. 👻

Residents at Westergate House enjoyed a delightful morning filled with creativity and seasonal spirit with an autumn-themed arts and crafts activity workshop led by Charlie, Activities Assistant. Using a variety of colourful autumn leaves, natural materials and artistic know-how, everyone took part in designing beautiful wreaths to celebrate the colours of the season. It was a lovely morning of creativity, conversation and companionship, celebrating nature’s beauty – the perfect way to welcome the autumn season together 🍂🍁🥰

👻🎃 Bewitching Tricks and Spooky Treats 👻🎃

Springvale Court Care Home, in Wrekenton, , was a den of ghoulish activity as the home’s spooky Halloween Adams Family got into full swing.

Colleagues embraced the spirit of Halloween by dressing up as The Addams Family. Morticia, Gomez, Pugsley, Wednesday, Uncle Fester, Cousin Itt and Lurch all visited Trinity Square in Gateshead town centre to hand out goodie bags for children and adults, and everyone had the opportunity to have their photo taken with the Addams Family.

General Manager, Gemma Rooney, shared: “Our staff love any excuse for fancy dress day! – we’ve all had a brilliant time.”

The team at Springvale Court commented: “It has been such a fun day. It was wonderful to see everyone go to so much effort to get into the Halloween spirit. And seeing the smiles on everyone’s faces’’.

🔍 Thursday Night Murder Club at Caldy Manor 🕵️‍♀️

It was an evening to remember at Caldy Manor Care Home on the as residents, colleagues and friends from Heswall & District Ladies Circle turned detectives, suspects and stars in the home’s very own Thursday Murder Club-themed evening.

Inspired by Richard Osman’s much-loved mystery novels, there were hilarious plot twists and some truly Oscar-worthy performances, the night was packed with laughs and fantastic acting from everyone involved.

A huge thank you to all, the experience was a roaring success.

Safe to say… no one saw the ending coming! 😉

🏅 Silver Success for Hugh Myddelton at Enfield in Bloom 2025 🌸

We’re happy to share that Hugh Myddelton House Care Home in won Silver in the Best Communal Gardens category at the Enfield in Bloom 2025.

The team proudly received their certificate from the Mayor of Enfield, Margaret Greer, at the Chickenshed Theatre – a joyful moment for everyone involved.

A big thank you to all who helped make the gardens so beautiful this year, especially volunteer Pat and Resident Ambassador Rosa.

Jade Shea, General Manager at the home, said: “Our garden is not just a beautiful space it’s a source of comfort, activity and pride for everyone here. This award belongs to our entire community who have worked so hard to make it flourish.”

The Enfield in Bloom competition, held annually, honours the best in gardening and environmental efforts across the borough.

🎉 Rose Water Place Supports Local Fishing Charity 🎉

Rose Water Place Care Home in recently presented Cast A Thought charity with a cheque for £1,260 in support of their Fish and Chat project, which promotes mental health and wellbeing through the therapeutic benefits of angling.

Cast A Thought CIC empowers children, young people and adults through accessible and inclusive fishing activities that encourage mental wellness and connection with nature.

Colleagues and residents welcomed Dave and Helen from Cast A Thought to a small gathering at the home to celebrate and hand over the cheque, awarded on behalf of Barchester's Charitable Foundation.

Hadrian Rodriguez, General Manager at Rose Water Place, shared: “We are always keen to show as much support as we can to local charities and Cast A Thought ensures that every cast of the line brings hope, healing and togetherness in the community.”

A morning of physical activity here at Westergate House - with a Halloween theme! 🎃 We were delighted to welcome back the lovely Donna, from Rise; who took us through our paces with energy and enthusiasm. Today’s sport was rugby and our warm-up involved rugby throws where teams Purple Pumpkins and Green Devils scored points for every target they toppled using a rugby ball or inflatable pumpkin. On this occasion, the Green Devils won outright, a top-spot confirmed in the rugby match that followed. Countless tries were scored and the sense of competition was palpable! Thank you Donna, a super morning of fun and exercise😍

A day of celebration at Westergate House. Our lovely Bernice celebrates her Birthday and the milestone of official retirement age! Everyone gathered round to share Bernice’s special day, and the best part of this celebration is that Bernice has decided NOT to retire! Her support and contribution to Westergate House has been incredible, and we are delighted that after 23 years of dedicated service she has no plans to stop delivering amazing person-centred care to our residents. Thank you, Bernice; you are a cherished member of our team. Happy Birthday!!

A lovely day to be out in the community. Truly autumnal! It was time to wrap up and board the Westergate House mini-bus for a trip to the Eastergate Community coffee morning. A fabulous social engagement where there was no end of chat. We caught up with members of the Aldingbourne Trust who have been busy preparing and planting their allotment in readiness for the winter months, as well as helping out at Bishop’s Gardens in Chichester. There was also talk about the community Christmas lunch that will be sponsored by Westergate House. An important date for the diary, Sunday 14th December, where all community members are welcome. So much to look forward to! 😀😍

At Westergate House we know that activity and occupation are important everyday and we ensure a range of different options to meet personal choice. Mitchell Armstrong, a regular visitor to the home, provides a wonderful trip down memory lane, providing musical entertainment that covers delightful tunes from past decades. It’s never long before we are toe-tapping and joining in with the familiar words; great for memory recall and reminiscence. A slightly more restful activity is armchair yoga; a popular choice for our residents who enjoy calm and focus, as well as the opportunity to stretch-out and to feel the benefits of exercise and movement. After all the lovely music and activity, we were more than ready to relax with a nice cup of tea 🥰☕
