This quote really hit home.

On the tough days, when seizures leave me exhausted, muscles feeling like overcooked spaghetti, and my tongue’s the size of a football from biting it, I’ll admit, I sometimes wish epilepsy would just kindly go away.

But then I’m reminded... this isn’t about wishing it away. It’s about doing what I can control. Better sleep. Stronger muscles. Looking at a swollen tongue and thinking, “Right then, soups and smoothies it is. Forced detox!" 🌿

Let’s stop seeing ourselves as victims and start showing up and , especially when life gets hard (because it will). 💪

When I was first diagnosed with , I swallowed every pill I was given, felt high on meds, battled hormonal chaos, and read endless lists of what I could no longer do! 🚫

Then I met a doctor who changed everything. Instead of saying “that’s life,” he said: listen to your body, explore alternatives, take back your power. Thank you Dr. Isaacs 🙏

Nine years later, I’m on a quarter of the meds I was once on and...

👉My hormones have stabilised
👉I can drive again
👉 I can go to the gym without a chaperone
👉I am healthier overall

Medication can help, but it’s not the only thing you can do. 💪✨

On the plane to Bulgaria, I read the short book “Feel the Fear & Do It Anyway” ~ by Susan Jeffers 📕(Thank you Paul Glynn).

I know so many people, including myself, who had experienced a trauma previously, and then several years later, developed epilepsy.

The true cause of is never just one single thing but an amalgamation of events and factors coming together to change the biology of the brain. 🧠

💜 In our epilepsy healing journey, we must not forget the importance of processing and accepting pain so that it does not:

a) manifest as a chronic health condition
b) keep the condition going at full scale

Speak to a therapist, a trusted friend, or close relative about your past traumas (big or small), and get them out of your system.

Alternatively, chat to me! I am a certified practitioner, which is powerful tool to help you deal with past trauma that may be keeping you in ill health.

Side note 🗒️ Would highly recommend this book!

👀 If you look closely, this beautiful tree and other smaller trees are growing from the trunk of a fallen one. What looked like the end... became the start of something new.

That’s what living with can be.
The diagnosis may feel like loss of freedom and identity. But from that moment, with the right support and care, something new can grow. Stronger. Wiser. More resilient. 🍃💪🏻

Your life isn’t over. It’s just beginning again. And this version of you could be unstoppable.

If you are looking for personalised support through your epilepsy journey, or just want someone to talk to, I am here. Head to theepilepsycoach.com and book in a free call. 📞

☔ 08:00. 5°C. Torrential rain. Did I want to be out there? Absolutely not. The dog looked at me like, “Well? Put your coat on then.”

I wanted tea and to stay cosy and warm. But Isla is a Border Collie, so she must be walked for her health, her sanity, and frankly for the safety of my furniture. So out we went.

And it got me thinking…

❓Why is it so much easier to show up with discipline and care for those we love than it is to show up for ourselves❓

> I know movement helps my body and mind. Yet I’ll happily stay welded to my office chair.

> I know food affects my thoughts and emotions. Yet ultra-processed snacks still win far too often.

> I fully know that less than 6 hours’ sleep increases my seizure risk, and yet somehow another episode of The Night Manager feels essential at 00:00. 🙃

It’s strange, isn’t it?

We’ll battle wind, rain and common sense for the wellbeing of others…
But when it comes to our own health, suddenly motivation goes missing and discipline calls in sick.

So here’s the million-pound question:
👉 Why do you think that is?

Psychology? Conditioning? Guilt? Habit? British stoicism gone wild?

Genuinely curious to hear your thoughts in the comments 👇

🤚 Why hands matter for the brain and epilepsy…

Our hands are one of the brain’s highest-priority body parts. Each finger has thousands of sensory receptors that influence focus, emotion, and regulation.

Why touch is important for people with epilepsy:

▶️ supports regulation and grounding - lowers stress and anxiety

▶️ Reduces sensory overload by competing with overwhelming input

▶️ Provides emotional reassurance, especially after seizures

▶️ Improves body awareness and reorientation

🙏🏼 Try these tactile exercises to support your brain:

1. Texture Play - explore rough, smooth, squishy, cool, warm objects. I like putting my hands in a bowl of uncooked rice.

2. Deep Pressure - stress ball, putty, bear hugs, weighted blankets.

3. Bilateral Touch - clapping, tapping rhythms, passing a ball from hand to hand.

4. Eyes closed touch - guess objects by feel or trace shapes on the palm.

🧠 Touch is a simple tool. But powerful for the brain!

Magnesium is a powerhouse mineral, but not all forms work the same. Each type supports different functions in the body. Some are especially helpful for epilepsy. I’ve put together a handout on my website that covers:

➡ The best magnesium supplements for epilepsy

➡Research linking magnesium to epilepsy support

➡ Choosing the best supplement for you

➡The top food sources to boost your levels naturally

➡Testing your magnesium levels

Check out my guide here: https://www.theepilepsycoach.com/blogs-articles/magnesium-and-epilepsy-the-connection-you-need-to-know

Magnesium is much more than just a mineral, it’s a critical nutrient for seizure control and brain health. While deficiencies can increase seizure risk, the right form of magnesium supplementation may support better outcomes for people living with epilepsy.

🙈What happened to modern medicine?

Since 460 BC, great thinkers have known the body is not separate systems working in isolation, but one beautifully connected organism. Illness may start in one place, but it’s never confined there.

This is especially true for epilepsy. Many body systems, including hormones, gut, immune and heart, play a role in seizure frequency. 🧠

Yet modern medicine still treats epilepsy as if it were only a “brain problem.” No wonder drugs alone help just 50–60% of people achieve fewer seizures.

🤸To truly manage epilepsy, we must treat the person, not just the brain, embracing the gut–brain connection, hormonal balance, cardiovascular health, Immune function, and the full human body.

I was inspired to write a blog on extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) after my recent trip to Koronekes Olive Mill in Crete.

With so many types of olive oil such as extra virgin olive oil, virgin olive oil, pure olive oil, and light olive oil, it can be hard to justify spending more on a good quality EVOO.

In my blog, I outline the benefits of EVOO, how to determine whether it is good quality, and whether it is worth spending the extra cash on this type of olive oil.

It’s official! Today, I completed my Matrix Reimprinting certification. 🎓

Matrix Reimprinting is a powerful extension of Emotional Freedom Technique (Tapping). This will allow me to work more effectively with my clients by addressing underlying emotional issues that often underpin physical illness.

I cannot wait to use this technique to help my clients achieve their wellness goals! ⭐️

Thank you Karl Dawson & EFTMRA community for all your training and support.
