We’re excited to share that IC24 has aligned our staff training with the UK Core Skills Training Framework (CSTF)!

This means new colleagues won’t need to repeat training they’ve already completed, and our patients can be confident our team is trained to nationally recognised standards.

Our Diversity and Inclusion Lead, Salma Aleem, and our Chief Strategy and Transformation Officer, Katherine Pitts, attended yesterday evening’s University of Warwick – Warwick Business School event, “From Intent to Impact: The New Blueprint for Inclusion” with Asif Sadiq, hosted by Dimitrios Spyridonidis.

It was an inspiring evening with thoughtful discussion and strong alignment to the inclusion and transformation work underway at Integrated Care 24.

Last week, we proudly received a plaque recognising our partnership with Kent and Medway Medical School.

We have welcomed KMMS students into our Ashford Contact Centre for several years, giving them the chance to observe how the NHS 111 service operates. Students listen to calls with our Health Advisors and Clinicians, learn how Pathways supports decision making, and take part in group discussions to deepen their understanding.

Each month we support around 20 Year 2 students across three days and around 4 Year 4 students who also join our clinicians in Ashford and Margate for home visits. Over the past year this has provided valuable experience for 59 Year 4 students and 109 Year 2 students.

We’re thrilled to be part of this amazing initiative, working with our partners to bring hospital-based imaging directly into people’s homes. We’re proud to provide the clinical oversight that helps make this pilot safe, effective, and focused on improving outcomes for frail and elderly patients. The service is coordinated through the UCCH (Unscheduled Care Coordination Hub), with the overseeing GP coming from the UCCH team.

This innovative mobile imaging pilot is already making a real difference by reducing unnecessary trips to A&E, improving patient experience, and helping people remain safely at home. Early results show high patient satisfaction and a significant number of avoidable hospital visits prevented.

A pilot's exploring the benefits of delivering hospital-based imaging services at home, preventing unnecessary trips to A&E.

The aim is to improve accessibility, reducing hospital admissions and enhance outcomes for frail and elderly patients.

The scheme, funded by the East Diagnostics Imaging Network, uses a low-powered Fujifilm mobile imaging device so that X-rays can be taken in the community without the need of a specially-adapted room. The equipment can be used to rule out upper and lower limb fractures which would normally result in a visit to A&E.

The initiative has been led by out Transformation team and delivered by a team of community radiographers from NNUH, with extensive technical and governance support from a range of partners and the Norfolk and Waveney Integrated Care Board, with referrals and clinical oversight provided by Integrated Care 24.

“It was clear from the start that protecting elderly and frail patients from a lengthy A&E wait benefits everyone involved,” said Tom Davies, Transformation Programme Officer. “By taking the service into the home, we’ve got happier patients and fewer ambulances being tasked which has helped reduce pressures at the front door of A&E.”

We're three months in and data collected so far shows 72% of patients seen by the mobile imaging service have avoided an unnecessary trip to A&E. Feedback from patients has been extremely positive, with 96% of people preferring the option of a home visit and 100% satisfaction with the care they’ve received.

Tom added: “Being able to keep patients in their own homes is really beneficial in reducing the stress and anxiety which comes from being in an unfamiliar hospital environment.”

Emma Key-Yeomans, General Radiography and Reporting Radiographer Service Lead, said: “One of the first patients to be seen was a 101-year-old lady. A visit from the imaging team immediately removed the stress and uncertainty of spending Friday evening in the A&E department. We were able to rule out a fracture and provide wrap around care in under two hours, all from the comfort of her own home.”

The current imaging car pilot is due to run until March next year and the team is already reviewing plans to expand the service.

We’ve teamed up with Norfolk and Waveney Integrated Care System to create a new guidance video supporting care home staff when calling NHS 111. The video explains what information to have ready, why having eyes on the patient matters, and how to help residents receive timely, safe care.

IC24 colleagues recently had a fantastic evening at the HSJ Awards, where we were proud to be nominated for Partnership of the Year. Our nomination recognised the Norfolk and Waveney Unscheduled Care Coordination Hub (UCCH)—a multidisciplinary partnership improving urgent and emergency care by reviewing 999 calls, coordinating alternatives to ambulance dispatch, and helping patients receive the right care, in the right place, first time.
