November might look quieter from afar but the Green Farm garden is still alive with colour, care and quiet industry 🌿
This month, Shelly and the community garden team are busy preparing for the colder months ahead, weeding and mulching the veg beds, saving seeds and garlic from our own bulbs, lifting dahlias to dry, and bringing tender plants like pelargoniums and lemon verbena into the greenhouse.
There’s still plenty to harvest too, beetroot, leeks, chard, fennel, herbs, and the first sweet parsnips after frost. Even as the summer jungles of tomatoes and basil make way for winter salads, the polytunnels stay full of life, peppery mizuna, mustard leaves, and edible flowers bringing bursts of colour and flavour to the season.
It’s a slower rhythm, but no less rewarding and a reminder that there’s always something growing, even in the quiet months. 🌱
Next time you’re at Green Farm for a treatment, pop by the community garden and say hello to Shelly, or visit the Thursday pop-up farm shop to see what’s fresh from the soil this week.
