We’re proud to be coming together with our amazing community partners to celebrate International Women’s Day at Hirst Welfare.

This year’s theme, Give to Gain, is all about generosity, collaboration, and lifting one another up — and that’s exactly what this event is all about.

Join us on Wednesday 11th March, 11.30am–2.30pm, for a welcoming afternoon filled with:
• Arts and crafts
• Health and wellbeing information
• Inspirational Women “Wall of Fame”
• Northumberland Archives display
• Book nook
• And plenty more to explore

Refreshments will be available, and everyone is welcome.
Together, we’re celebrating the strength, creativity, and resilience of women in our community.

We want to showcase all the fabulous inspirational women of Ashington/Northumberland. We would like you to send us a photo and a brief paragraph of why they’re amazing.

It could be your grandma, aunty, school teacher, mam, daughter, local shopkeeper, hairdresser, etc…. Whoever has inspired you please let us know.

We also want to delve into the history books and find those amazing North East women like Emily Davison, Cissie Charlton, Josephine Butler etc… if you know of others please email or drop us a comment.

Cygnus Support Hirst Welfare Centre

On 19th November 2025, during the Finance and HR Committee meeting, Newbiggin Town Council approved a £300 grant for Beyond Youth to support their work with local young people.

This funding has helped deliver 𝘁𝘄𝗼 𝗖𝗼𝗼𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗽𝘀 delivered by the 𝗙𝘂𝗹𝗹 𝗖𝗶𝗿𝗰𝗹𝗲 𝗙𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁, giving young people the chance to learn new skills and enjoy great food together.

On 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝟮𝗻𝗱 𝗙𝗲𝗯𝗿𝘂𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲, Cllr Gwen Woodman, Mayor of Newbiggin by the Sea, visited Beyond Youth situated at Elizabethan Hall to present a large cheque and see the amazing work being done.

Newbiggin Youth Club offer a welcoming space to hang out, eat food, make friends, and have fun - every Monday during term time:-

About Full Circle Food

We engage with communities through cooking, growing and eating together. We provide learning and volunteer opportunities for those wanting to enter the working environment.

We focus on family nutrition and making small positive changes to a healthier lifestyle. Over the years we have worked in partnership with local organisations and secured funding for multiple projects such as Men's Shed, inter-generational cooking, gardening and family cooking projects.
