Applications are being received up until the 1st December. If you’re interested but have some questions about exactly what the role involves then here are some FAQ’s to help you decide whether it’s for you or not.

Q: Do I need previous experience or qualifications?
A: No — full training is provided. We’re looking for people with commitment to helping the community and teamwork skills.

Q: Is this a full-time job?
A: No — it’s a voluntary role. The majority of our team have regular jobs and respond to incidents when available to do so.

Q: How much time do I need to commit?
A: You’ll need to attend regular training sessions (usually once a week as well as maintaining your competencies with other courses which you’ll be notified of well in advance) and respond to callouts when you can. You’ll also complete initial training when you first join to become operationally competent.

Q: What kind of person are you looking for?
A: Reliable, calm under pressure, willing to learn, adaptable and approachable.

Q: What’s the reward?
A: Knowing you’ve helped save lives at sea and made a difference in your local community. You’ll also be part of a supportive, professional team. You will be able to claim a small amount for your time and mileage when attending incidents.

Our team trains throughout the year on Tuesday nights. Last night we did a joint training exercise with RNLI Newbiggin Lifeboat Station at Cresswell locating a missing person (one of the RNLI gents kindly hid on the beach for us), performing casualty care and extracting them from the beach.

It’s great to do joint exercises and we thank the RNLI for organising this one.

It takes a certain amount of dedication to attend regular training in the winter months as well as being called out on live incidents. If that sounds like something you could do, get in touch as we’re currently recruiting for more team members.

Proud to stand together with RNLI Newbiggin Lifeboat Station in rememberance

Our volunteers (some of whom are veterans themselves) are always proud to take part in Newbiggin's annual Remembrance Day Parade alongside the Newbiggin Coastguard Rescue Team.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.

Yesterday, our team attended the service at Memorial Park in Newbiggin to pay our respects to all those who have served and sacrificed for our freedom — past and present.

We stand proud to serve our community, remembering those who gave everything so we could live in peace.

If you’re inspired to serve your community too, we’re currently recruiting volunteer Coastguard Rescue Officers. Find out more through the link in our bio.

Blyth Town Council would like to thank everyone who attended our annual Fireworks Display at Blyth Beach, which saw over 18,000 people join us for this much-loved community event.

At around 6:10pm, prior to the display, our event stewards were alerted to an incident on the beach involving a person in the water. The Coastguard, and our onsite ambulance and Paramedic teams attended immediately. This incident occurred outside of the event area and was managed entirely by the Coastguard team.

Our event team worked closely with all emergency services to support their response. At the request of the Coastguard Officer in Charge, the fireworks display was delayed by 15 minutes to allow emergency vehicles to leave the area safely and to ensure the continued safety of the crowd. Once emergency services had completed their response and our stewards were back in position, the event continued as planned.

As with all our events, public safety remains our top priority. We appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation during this time.

The Mayor of Blyth said: “A medical emergency occurred at Blyth Beach where Coastguard, Ambulance, and Paramedic teams attended. The display was delayed to allow our emergency services to do their vital work safely, and I’d like to thank everyone for their understanding and cooperation.”

We understand this was a very distressing situation, and our thoughts are with their family.
