Oxytocin ❤️
Known as the love hormone or ‘cuddle chemical’, it is an essential hormone for birth and breastfeeding. It’s responsible for starting and sustaining contractions in labour and the let down reflex for breastfeeding.

❤️ Relaxation
❤️ Peace

❤️ Dim lighting

Oxytocin hates;
🤯 Cortisol
Cortisol, our stress hormone, will stop oxytocin production in its tracks which is often why contractions slow or stop shortly after they start, as we (quite naturally) start to worry or panic about birth.
Physical touch is an amazing way to reduce stress and increase oxytocin production and is a perfect way for a partner to get involved in the first stage of labour……
*Really* slowly, with some oil for movement ask your partner to place both hands flat on your lower legs, starting from your ankles moving up to your knees and back down to the ankles. Repeat a few times and then move to the other leg. It feels lovely and relaxing but in addition the nerve endings stimulated during this massage trigger the release of oxytocin which will help sustain contractions and also help manage pain.
You’ve got this mama 💪🏼❤️
