After years of struggling with binge eating, Carl contacted his GP and was referred to Living Well Tameside – a partnership between The Big Life Group, Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust, Tameside, Oldham & Glossop Mind, Tameside Council and many others.

Working with mental health and wellbeing practitioner Katie, Carl learned practical techniques to break his unhealthy binge eating cycle – like taking a short walk after meals or pausing between eating and his next task. ‘The therapy was behavioural focused, taking the emotion out of eating, changing habits and disrupting patterns,’ Carl says. ‘I’m no longer binge eating and I feel close to full recovery.’

Carl is building on his progress with support from cognitive behavioural therapist Ihuoma at Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust adult eating disorder service.

This International Men’s Day, Carl’s story shows that recovery is possible. Great progress Carl and brilliant work from Katie, Ihuoma, and our mental health and wellbeing practitioners across the country 💙

Today is , celebrating the dads, the uncles, the brothers, and the sons in your life.

International Men’s Day encourages men to teach the boys in their lives the values, character and responsibilities of being, and becoming the best that they can be. To support themselves and those around them.

Men can find it extremely difficult to open up about their mental health and how they are feeling. If you, or anyone you know is struggling, please reach out.
