I’m a Holistic Somatic Therapist, but I usually describe what I do as bridging the gap between the mind and the body. I’ve noticed that 'talking' only goes so far if the body is still holding onto stress, and 'massage' only goes so far if the mind is still stuck in old patterns.

How Emotions Affect the Body

Emotions are not just “in the mind” they have a direct and real impact on the body.
Essentially, every emotion triggers chemical and physiological reactions that influence our organs, nervous system, and overall state of health.

How it works
When we experience an emotion, the brain (especially the limbic system) sends signals to the body through the nervous and hormonal systems. Hormones such as cortisol (stress) or oxytocin (connection) are released, and the body reacts immediately.

Stress and anxiety
Muscle tension (especially in the neck and shoulders)
Headaches
Digestive problems
Chronic fatigue

🪷Over time, these can contribute to conditions such as generalized anxiety or high blood pressure
Repressed anger
Increases blood pressure
Affects the liver (in holistic approaches)
Can lead to constant irritability and exhaustion
Sadness / depression
Lowers energy levels
Weakens the immune system
Can lead to major depression

🪷 Physical sensations: heaviness in the chest, lack of motivation

Activates the “fight or flight” response

The body “speaks” through sensations. Unexpressed or repressed emotions do not disappear , they can become somatised (turned into physical symptoms).

…are very effective, because they help release emotions from the body, not just understand them mentally.
A simple way to look at it
Emotion = energy in motion
