Seddons Opticians

Seddons Opticians At Seddons Opticians, we believe in delivering a tailormade service, ensuring you recieve the highes

Mr John Seddon inherited Skirrow Opticians from his father and continued to serve the community as Seddon’s Opticians. Married to Elaine, also an optometrist, the couple went onto own 3 practices in the local area. They were very likeable people and established themselves well within their community, becoming a great influence on the surrounding area. Sadly John passed away in 2016, and just 2 years later Elaine retired from the optical industry. As successors to John and Elaine, it was important that the current owners, Musab and Naeemunisha, took over and continued to run the business with the same standards and ethos that had served the community so well for so many years before them; a family-centred eyecare service at the heart of the Atherton community. Even better is the fact that they run the business as a husband and wife team, a team who between them have been practicing as optometrists for over 20 years.

Quick New Year check-in 👀

Has anyone else noticed their eyes feeling more tired since routines kicked back in — more screens, more reading, more driving?

We’re seeing a lot of people locally mentioning:
• dry, irritated or gritty eyes
• headaches or eye strain
• children struggling more with distance or screens than expected

Often it’s only when the new year starts that these things become noticeable.

If you’re unsure whether it’s time for an eye test (or whether symptoms are just “normal”), feel free to comment or message — we’re always happy to advise.

If you already know you’re due, appointments can be booked here:

✨ Something new is coming in 2026… ✨

Over the past year, we’ve been quietly working behind the scenes on a number of new services and improvements designed to enhance the care, comfort and experience we offer our patients.

We can’t say too much just yet — but what we can say is that 2026 will bring exciting developments, thoughtful innovations, and services shaped around what our patients have been asking for.

👀 Keep an eye on this space.
📅 More will be revealed very soon.

Thank you, as always, for trusting us with your eye care — we’re looking forward to sharing what’s next.

👀 A little dry-eye win I witnessed today (sharing to give hope, not to promote anything!)

Someone came in who had been struggling for YEARS — constant burning, blurry vision, couldn’t work on screens without pain.
Turned out their oil glands were almost completely blocked.

After starting a structured treatment plan (warm compress therapy, lid hygiene, and later a light-based treatment (OPTILIGHT IPL therapy) recommended for gland dysfunction), they said today:
“This is the first time in years my eyes haven’t felt heavy, gritty or sore by the afternoon.”

Dry eye can feel hopeless, but it is possible to improve things when you treat the root cause, not just the symptoms.

If anyone wants help understanding what type of dry eye you may have, feel free to ask.
No sales — just sharing knowledge as an optometrist who sees this condition every day.

Did you know stress can affect your eyes?
Eye strain, twitching, blurred vision, and headaches can all flare up during stressful times. Take regular screen breaks, get plenty of rest, and book an eye test if symptoms persist. Looking after your vision supports your wellbeing, too.
