Mr John Seddon inherited Skirrow Opticians from his father and continued to serve the community as Seddon’s Opticians. Married to Elaine, also an optometrist, the couple went onto own 3 practices in the local area. They were very likeable people and established themselves well within their community, becoming a great influence on the surrounding area. Sadly John passed away in 2016, and just 2 years later Elaine retired from the optical industry. As successors to John and Elaine, it was important that the current owners, Musab and Naeemunisha, took over and continued to run the business with the same standards and ethos that had served the community so well for so many years before them; a family-centred eyecare service at the heart of the Atherton community. Even better is the fact that they run the business as a husband and wife team, a team who between them have been practicing as optometrists for over 20 years.

Did you know stress can affect your eyes?
Eye strain, twitching, blurred vision, and headaches can all flare up during stressful times. Take regular screen breaks, get plenty of rest, and book an eye test if symptoms persist. Looking after your vision supports your wellbeing, too.

🔵 DIABETES & EYE HEALTH: A Must-Read! 👁️
If you or someone you love has diabetes, it’s important to know that it doesn’t just affect your blood sugar — it can also impact your eyesight in serious ways.
📌 One of the most common complications is diabetic retinopathy — a condition where high blood sugar damages the tiny blood vessels in the retina (the light-sensitive part of your eye). Over time, this can lead to vision problems or even blindness if left untreated.
👀 Watch for these warning signs:
Blurry or distorted vision
Seeing floaters or dark spots
Vision that goes in and out
Dark or empty areas in your sight
But here’s the good news: vision loss from diabetes is preventable — if caught early!
✅ Here’s how to protect your eyes:
Keep your blood sugar, blood pressure, and cholesterol under control
Schedule a comprehensive eye exam every year (even if your vision seems fine)
Report any vision changes to your optician right away
👨‍⚕️ Don’t wait for symptoms to appear — by then, damage may already be done.
