Yesterday, we had the absolute honour of welcoming a new resident, Vic, into Aston Manor ✨

Our team gathered at the door to greet him with a little welcome party — complete with some presents, a card, and even a few bottles of his favourite beer . The team then gathered round to commemorate the day with a group picture, marking a really special welcome for Vic 🧡.

At Aston Manor, it’s important that we take those extra steps to make sure our new residents feel welcomed and settled in their new home, and this moment truly showed that. 🧡

Residents and staff at Aston Manor have been getting into the Christmas spirit this week by putting up decorations around the home. 🎄✨ Everyone had a wonderful time listening to festive music, adding those special touches, and sharing stories about Christmases gone by. Yesterday we held a Knit & Natter session in our Sports Lounge, led by the Never Alone team from CPJ Field — a wonderful community project encouraging people to knit “Buddies” and hide them around Aylesbury to share the message: “You are never alone.”🤗

As a keen knitter, Sheila was thrilled to get involved. Taking part in something meaningful like this offers a real sense of purpose and achievement, making it a truly valuable activity for our residents. 🧡🧶

Thanksgiving at Aston Manor! 🦃🧡

Today, to celebrate Thanksgiving, our chef Lucian cooked up a delicious festive feast for our residents before rounding off the day with a “What’s That Sound?” game — a brilliant activity for older people, as it encourages listening skills, memory recall, and conversation in a relaxed and enjoyable way.

Our resident Yank and Engagement Coordinator, Justyn, was also on hand to share the meaning behind Thanksgiving and why the day holds such importance. 🧡

Yesterday, we were lucky enough to welcome Emily Yarrow into our Piano Lounge for a beautiful live performance. Our residents were absolutely blown away by her incredible voice, and it wasn’t long before they were joining in and singing along. This week, our activities team have been entertaining residents with "Dancing Through the Ages" — a fun reminiscence-based activity where residents pick a dance style from a box and act it out for others to guess.🎵

It’s a brilliant mix of movement, music and memory. Residents and staff had a wonderful time taking part, with plenty of laughter and some impressive guesses. The session also sparked nostalgic conversations about parties, discos and dance halls from years gone by — moments that mean so much to the people we support. 🧡

This week, residents Shelia and Leia joined our activities team for some classic games in the activities room 🎲. Our residents especially enjoyed playing Scrabble, sparking lovely nostalgic conversations about playing the game with their families over the years 🧡.

Scrabble isn’t just a trip down memory lane — it’s also fantastic for keeping the mind active . Games like this help stimulate memory, language skills, and problem-solving, providing gentle yet effective cognitive exercise in a social and enjoyable way.🧠
