Do you need prescription Orthotics or Insoles. Orthotics are prescription medical devices that you wear inside your shoes to correct biomechanical foot issues such as poor foot function, correcting how you walk, stand, or run. They can also help with foot pain such as plantar fasciitis, bursitis, and arthritis. Orthotics can help correct poor balance and postural control easing back, hip, knee and neck pain.

Preventing and Treating Chilblains

Chilblains are painful, itchy swellings that often occur on the tops of small toe joints but can occur in other bony areas too, such as the back of the heel. Tightly fitting footwear can constirct blood flow and increase the problem through rubbing on the painful area. Chilblains are a cold reaction to the cold. and often present as itchy red and inflammed. Scratchig then worsens the problem and if not cared for correctly they can breakdown and become weepy inflamed and even more painful.

Preventative action is easier than the solution so use an antipruritic (anti-itching) cream or ointment . Menthol-based products can also be very soothing.
If the skin becomes broken, apply to help heal the skin and prevent infection and cover with a non adherent non stick dressing.

PLANTAR FASCIITIS is a condition which can cause heel pain. It happens when the strong band of tissue on the sole of your foot (fascia) becomes irritated, after repetitive use or due to poor foot posture. Most commonly it occurs in one foot but is possible to have it in both feet at the same time.

There is usually a gradual onset of pain, however, symptoms can also be acute with sudden onset.

Symptoms of plantar fasciitis include:
💥Pain or tenderness in the heel or arch of the foot
💥Pain with initial steps in the morning or after a period of rest
💥Walking short distances may improve pain but longer distances may increase the symptoms again
💥Pain with sudden stretching of the sole of the foot. This could include going up on your toes or upstairs
💥Pain with prolonged standing or when wearing flat or unsupportive footwear

What causes plantar fasciitis?
Often there may be no obvious cause for the symptoms. However, certain risk factors can are associated such as:
🦶🏼Poor cushioning or poor arch support in your shoes
🦶🏼Tightness in calf muscle
🦶🏼Poor foot posture
🦶🏼Being on your feet for long periods of time, especially on hard surfaces
🦶🏼Being overweight
🦶🏼If you are very active it can also be due to sudden stretching or overuse of the sole of the foot; such as when sprinting, jumping and landing on hard surfaces in basketball or after increasing running distance or intensity.

If you are suffering, book an appointment and we can assess the cause and put a treatment plan in place.
