Did you know...?

Every 40 Seconds:
Somewhere in the world, a family loses someone to su***de.

By the end of this Su***de Prevention Month, we'll have lost 64,800 people globally.
That's equivalent to losing an entire city.

For every death, there are 25 attempts. During this single awareness month, over 1.6 million people worldwide will attempt to end their lives.

Here's the cruel irony of mental health crises: The moment someone needs help most is often when they're least capable of seeking it.

When you're drowning in depression, making a phone call feels impossible. When anxiety has you paralysed, leaving the house for an appointment is unthinkable. When you're planning your exit, you've often already convinced yourself that nothing will help.

This month, we're spreading awareness around su***de and mental health crises. Let's normalise open discussion and encourage those who are struggling to reach out, rather than remain isolated. If you're ready to talk, we're here to listen.

***Practice Update - Website Development***

We're undergoing some essential website development in the next couple of weeks, which means that you may not be able to access practice information on services or frequently asked questions at this time. Rest assured, we are still fully operational, and we can still be contacted throughout this time through our social channels, by call or text to 07941 106921 (leave a voicemail during clinic hours and we'll get back to you the same day), and via email to enquiries@westcoasthypnosis.co.uk or westcoasthypnosis@gmail.com, to book appointments and to ask any questions. Please bear with us whilst we get ready to relaunch the practice website fully - it will be worth the wait! 😁

A groundbreaking study using brain scans has revealed a disturbing parallel: children exposed to intense family conflict show brain changes similar to those found in combat veterans. That’s right — the emotional warfare inside a home can mimic the neurological toll of literal battlefield trauma.

Researchers found that kids who witness chronic yelling, aggressive arguments, or domestic tension have altered brain activity in areas linked to fear, stress, and emotional regulation. These are the same brain regions often affected in soldiers returning from war zones.

The amygdala, a part of the brain responsible for processing threats and fear, becomes hypersensitive, constantly on alert. Meanwhile, the prefrontal cortex, which helps manage emotions and make rational decisions, often becomes underdeveloped or impaired. This combination can lead to long-term emotional difficulties, anxiety, or even PTSD-like symptoms later in life.

What makes this even more alarming is that many families underestimate the impact of loud fights or emotional tension on children. But the science is clear: a child's brain is shaped by the emotional climate they grow up in.

This discovery highlights the urgent need for family therapy, safe environments, and emotional education to protect developing minds. Just because there are no visible bruises doesn’t mean the damage isn’t real.

We work collaboratively with families, parents and children over the age of 5. If we could help you, or someone you know, recover emotionally from past experiences, get in touch to arrange to attend the practice.

***Practice Update - Summer into Autumn***

It's been an extremely busy few months at the practice, and as we start to head into the autumn months, we're now starting to get enquiries around help needed for arachnophobia, school anxieties and even for gift vouchers for Christmas! Please bear with us as we work through our waiting list - we're expanding availability for appointments and if you call to book in, please do leave a message - we'll come back to you the same day.

We've done some incredibly rewarding sessions with clients this summer, and we're excited to work with you this autumn - whether it's time to stop a long standing habit such as smoking, help needed around a mood or anxiety issue, or you're wanting to shed a few extra pounds before Christmas. We're privileged to have been a key therapy service in Ayrshire and across Scotland for more than a decade now, and we will continue to work to support our partners in business and other health professionals across the NHS.

We look forward to hearing from you if you're ready to find out what a clinical approach to hypnotherapy can do to help you.
