A new long-term study has found that prostate cancer screening saves more lives than previously thought.

After 30 years of follow-up, researchers found that one prostate cancer death was prevented for every six men diagnosed through screening.

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in UK men, yet there is still no national screening programme.

This is why awareness and access to testing matter so much. Detecting prostate cancer earlier can make a real difference.

The news about James Van Der Beek’s death from bowel cancer at just 48 is a powerful reminder that this disease doesn’t only affect older people.

Bowel cancer is one of the most common cancers in the UK, and early detection makes a significant difference.

We've shared some graphics below because it's important to be aware. These symptoms don’t always mean cancer - but they should never be ignored.

The good news is that more than half of bowel cancers may be preventable through healthier lifestyle choices - and screening saves lives.

The NHS screening programme sends eligible adults a home test kit to check for hidden blood in their stool, which is often an early warning sign of bowel
cancer.

You may have seen today’s news reports about misleading claims around sunbeds.

It’s worth repeating: sunbeds expose the skin to UV radiation that increases the risk of melanoma and other skin cancers - especially when used at a younger age. There is no health benefit that outweighs that risk.

We understand how confusing health information can be, particularly when it circulates widely online.

Our advice at Check4Cancer is always the same:

January is cervical cancer awareness month.

Cervical cancer can be prevented - and even eliminated.

Doctors across England are urging people to attend cervical screening and take up the HPV vaccine, with the ambition of eliminating cervical cancer by 2040.

More than 99% of cervical cancers are caused by HPV, and evidence from the UK’s vaccination programme shows that prevention really does work.

If you’re aged 25–64 and overdue for screening, it’s never too late to book.

Early action saves lives. Awareness matters.
