Reminding myself to keep things simple 💛

I used to spend hours before my children’s birthdays making “healthy” everything — cakes, snacks, homemade hummus in pepper trains, fruit wands, even nibbles for the parents. By the time the party started, I was completely wiped out and barely had the energy to enjoy it with them.

This year, I took a leaf out of my own book and kept it simple. We had the loveliest weekend celebrating Seb turning 11 🎉 I did still make the cake, because while I’m all for easy, I can’t quite bring myself to buy one with a list of ingredients that goes on forever. Amelie decorated it with Seb’s current golf obsession theme ⛳️

Healthy eating will always be my thing, but it’s not a bit of sugar at a birthday party that matters, it’s the ultra-processed stuff we need to watch. The evidence is mounting on how much it affects our health, and honestly, keeping things simple just feels so much better 💛

Many of you have heard me bang on about protein before… I won’t go full lecture mode, but I’ve had so many parent friends ask lately about protein powders for their teens.

My answer’s the same whether you’re a child, teen, midlife or older: protein powders can be handy occasionally, but they should never replace real food.

I like a few clean brands — for my own teen, I often use The Organic Protein Company. Look for minimal ingredients, nothing artificial.

Whey is especially good for teens — easy to digest, high-quality and ideal after sport. Just steer clear of the ones full of sweeteners, fillers and flavourings — they can mess with gut health, hormones, skin and energy.

Yes, teens do need more protein, but best to get it from actual meals: eggs, Greek yogurt, nuts, seeds, lentils, beans, oily fish, poultry, red meat etc.

If I can guide mine toward making protein shakes and not margaritas, I’m calling that a parenting win 😂

☀️ Summer sun is here, and so is your gentle reminder to wear SPF – every single day, even when it’s cloudy 🌥️

I’m often asked what non-toxic skincare I use, and until now, I’ve never teamed up with a brand. But I’ve genuinely fallen in love with Tropic Skincare – and I use their products every day.

So I’m really happy to share that I’m now officially a Tropic ambassador 💛

Their sun care range is reef-safe, non-toxic, and full of nourishing ingredients like green algae, vitamin E and coconut extracts. I use the Sun Day SPF 50 for my face and Great Barrier SPF 30 for my body – and they’ve become daily staples for keeping my skin healthy and protected.

If you’re curious to try them yourself, you can order directly through my ambassador page below – or just drop me a message and I’ll happily tell you more about them.
