Patient Announcement: Future Surgery Events

Following our recent event last Friday in support of Prostate Cancer Awareness.

The event was advertised twice on our social media platforms in the days leading up to the event. In addition, an SMS message was scheduled to be sent to all patients aged 18 and over. Unfortunately, we have been made aware that some patients received their SMS after the event had already taken place, which appears to have been caused by a delay within the messaging system.

We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused.

To prevent this from happening in the future, all SMS notifications for surgery events will now be sent at least one week in advance. This change will allow additional time to account for any unexpected delays and ensure all patients receive timely updates.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support.

After our Prostate Cancer Awareness Day, we were delighted to welcome so many patients who popped in to say hello, pick up leaflets, and have a chat with Dr Patel. Today was all about raising awareness of the prostateโ€”what to look out for, understanding symptoms, and knowing when to seek help.

If patients had any concerns or symptoms, Dr Patel was on hand to discuss these, as well as to go through the forms required for a PCA check and to provide clear information about prostate health.

A huge thank-you to Dr Patel for coming in on a non-working day to offer such valuable support. Thank you also to Sally from Macmillan for being onsite to guide and inform, and to Helen for your ongoing dedicationโ€”our patients always appreciate your warm and positive attitude.๐Ÿ’™

Face masks reintroduced in Emergency Areas at Kings Mill Hospital and Urgent Treatment Centre at Newark

From Friday 5 December 2025, face masks are required in the following areas at King's Mill Hospital:

Emergency Department
Emergency Admissions Unit (EAU)
Surgical Admissions Unit (SAU)
Childrenโ€™s Admissions Unit (CAU)
Transitional Care Hub
Radiology
and
Urgent Treatment Centre at Newark Hospital

This decision follows an increase in respiratory illnesses, including influenza, among patients, visitors, and staff.
What you need to do:
โ€ข Wear a mask at all times in these areas. Masks are available at stations near department entrances.
โ€ข Wash your hands frequently and use the hand sanitiser provided.
โ€ข Do not visit if you have symptoms of illness (cold, flu, COVID-like symptoms) or have had diarrhoea or vomiting in the past three days.
Anyone with symptoms or a confirmed diagnosis should wear a mask in all areas, including after admission.
Rates of infection are kept under constant review and studies indicate that introducing the wearing of masks is one of the ways that we can prevent the spread of infection in our hospitals.

It is vital that we take decisive action to protect our most vulnerable patients, visitors and colleagues to ensure we can keep essential services running for all those that need them over the coming weeks.

For some people, symptoms of seasonal affective disorder (SAD) can feel more noticeable or harder to manage during the winter.

But small things can help:

๐Ÿ”ต try some physical activity โ€“ anything that gets you moving
๐Ÿ”ต make the most of natural light โ€“ getting outside or sitting near windows
๐Ÿ”ต plan for tougher days โ€“ shifting stressful tasks or building in more rest

Thereโ€™s also treatment available if youโ€™re finding things really tough โ€“ such as light therapy, talking therapies or medication.
